Traveling. Everyone's favorite thing. Who doesn't LOVE a nice vacation to the tropics or backpacking through Europe? I have always heard people say that they would like to travel once they finish college. Here are some reasons I recommend not waiting.
Through traveling, you are able to become familiar with so many different cultures. Though I have not been to many places out of the country, the states alone is considered to be a melting pot. I have lived in New York for 18 years and decided to go to college in Florida to switch it up. By doing so, I have learned so much. Typically northern are considered to be rude and selfish. Going to school in the south has given me a taste of what "true hospitality" is like. It has helped me to be able to adapt to all different types of people. This is something that should be learned as early in life as possible.
You get to try a TON of amazing foods. I recently just got home from a trip starting in New Orleans, Louisiana and ending in Tampa, Florida. It has been said that New Orleans has some of the best food in America. Let me tell you, this is not wrong. From Beignets to Crawfish, everything I tasted was amazing. I even ate the best omelet I've ever had while in New Orleans. Food is one of the best benefits of traveling. And honestly, who doesn't love food?
You are educated on all monuments and historical landmarks. A couple days ago my boyfriend told me he was going to see the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. I felt so embarrassed having to ask what he meant. If my mom hadn't denied me permission to attend a school trip there that was offered in middle school, I probably would have known what this was. Traveling is not always just leisure. It can be educational as well. Traveling will grant you the ability to be able to say "yeah I have been to the Washington D.C. and all of the historical monuments!"
It makes you more responsible. Through getting back and forth to New York and Florida I have learned how to be responsible for myself. I am able to get myself to any airport and know what is necessary while doing so. I can navigate through cities and be a "big girl' and ask people questions if needed. Overall I like to think I am more responsible and capable because of my travels.
The world is always changing. Who knows, maybe tomorrow some tropical storm in New York will knock down the statue of liberty. Would you have the ability to say you have seen it? Traveling is an ongoing thing. There are so many things to see that you need to start young! Years ago seeing the Pyramids in Egypt was something on everyone's itinerary, now it is too unsafe to travel to this country. Do it while you can! Live in the moment!
You could die first. Again, life is unpredictable. Do everything and anything while you can, because let's face it, you never know what is coming in the future.
