Halloween is officially over, and you know what that means. The world is officially divided into two kinds of people; those who listen to Christmas music in November and those who do not. I’m not here to bash the people who like to listen to good old Mariah Carey or some Michael Buble during the winter months, I’m just saying it’s inhumane. Let me explain why this is true.
I totally understand why you would want to listen to Christmas music. Halloween is finally over, that means fall is soon coming to an end, and what’s next? Everybody’s mind jumps to December. Christmas music is so full of cheer and it lifts up even the darkest of spirits, plus there are new songs coming out every year just for this occasion. Remember when Justin Bieber came out with an entire Christmas album? Everybody and their mother had that blasting throughout the whole season. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, this time of year is so happy and full of smiles all around. You can’t even go into a Target store without seeing holiday themed treats and clothing. It’s an amazing time to be alive. Also, there aren’t any songs about Thanksgiving, which makes this annual situation even worse. So, of course, you have to jump from one holiday to the next.
But what people are forgetting is the best comfort food holiday of the year, Thanksgiving! This is the holiday where you get to see family come in from out of town and hear all of the latest family drama go down. Yes, you might have to deal with that uncle that gets a little too drunk right before dinner, but isn’t that what we all like to see the most? Or maybe instead of a drunken uncle, it’s an aunt that likes to comment on everybody’s appearance? Either way, you don’t want to miss it. Thanksgiving has so many amazing parts to it that you can't just skip over them like they mean nothing to you. The decorations are as cute as can be; little cartoon turkeys dressed up as pilgrims, cornucopias overflowing with food, and my personal favorite, all the elementary school crafts you made way back when get put up as decoration, including countless handprint turkeys covered in glitter and googly eyes. Not only are the decorations perfect, but so is the food. The food is the whole reason for the season; the food is obviously the best part. The fresh out of the oven turkey, warm mashed potatoes, and buttery dinner rolls, you just cannot beat a Thanksgiving meal.
What I’m getting at is, Christmas music is for the month of December only. Every month has their own thing, and I refuse to let November get trampled on by Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. November goes by quickly anyway, and since school is starting to drag the life out of students, people can't wait for it to be over with. November deserves some appreciation, it has a lot to offer.
