The most recent episode of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood shed more light to Teairra Mari's situation with Akbar Abdul-Ahad. She admitted that she did spend some time with him even after she accused him of leaking a sex tape of the two of them together. She even had a press conference in which she spoke out against the crime. She made her desire to take Akbar to court public. The twist in the situation is that Akbar was in a relationship with two other women, a wife and a girlfriend at the same time as his relationship with Teairra. He wanted Teairra to join his group of doting love interests.
This scenario sounds as though it was simply created for a TV show, but it's real. I got wind of the sex tape leakage several months ago when I heard the info on the radio. Quite naturally, viewers figured that in the episodes about the mess on Love and Hip Hop Hollywood, Teairra would leave Akbar. Her co-stars on the show thought so, too. Yet, we saw in this latest episode that Teairra really did reach out to Akbar, and on the show it was portrayed that she spent time with him after the press conference about her intent on legal action.
On the show, Teairra became angry when her friend questioned her about spending time with the man who she accused of damaging her reputation. Her response: Teairra said that her dealings with Akbar were her business, and I agree that most of the time friends should stay out of other friends' personal business.
However, there are times when good friends should intervene, like when a friend is being hurt in any way in the relationship, for example. Before she went to London, Teairra's friends did some investigating to find out if Akbar had other love interests or whatever else they could dig up. So, Teairra's friends took it into their own hands to try to help their friend. Teairra didn't ask them to do this. She seemed to be glad to know the truth, and she appeared happy with Paris who backed her up during the confrontation with Akbar. When the sex tape leaked, she opted to do the press conference, and she wanted her friends around her.
So when she was questioned about sex tape of her and Akbar together, I think there was nothing wrong with anyone around her asking Teirra 'what's going on?' It's good that the show has become a catalyst for dialogue about the phenomenon of women who go back to men who have hurt them. It happens all the time. Sometimes women are emotionally tied to the men, for different reasons. In Teairra's case,
it appears from the show that she is struggling, because she still views Akbar as someone she could trust, and she has deep feelings for him, positive feelings. Her friends seem to want to help her pull herself out of a situation that could hurt her. I think that the disconnect that's happening on the show between Teairra and her friends is that she says that she is hurt and going to take him to court, because she strongly believes that he leaked the tapes. At the same time, she has those strong positive feelings for him. She might feel love, like, friendship, or some other warm cozy feeling for her ex. So, people on the show and in the public are confused. If she openly said that she wanted to be with him despite the sex tape and the other two women, would that change anything? I'm not sure.
