Being a college student is hard. You are constantly under the pressure of loan debt and your studies while having to maintain at least one job so that when you come out of school, you aren't homeless. On top of school, work, and money troubles, most students are involved in extracurricular activities on their campus.

Finding a job to fit your busy schedule can be hard! Most businesses want their employees to work 20+ hours a week, including nights and weekends. This is not always a request that college students can accommodate.

With the rise of delivery services and app businesses, a new trend in jobs for college students has come about. Now with the help of a car and a cell phone, a college student can work whenever they want! One of the jobs that is making it possible for a college student to live and work on such a crazy schedule, is Shipt.

Shipt is an app in which users pay a monthly fee to order groceries that will be delivered to them. Shipt has alliances with many grocery stores all throughout the nation. In the Metro Detroit area, Shipt's connection is with Meijer.

I have recently become a Shipt shopper and I love it! I have made so much money in such a short time and I have met so many great cashiers and users! The flexibility of the job and the helpfulness from Shipt's corporate team has made my experience as a shopper great thus far!

Since I have found this amazing way to make money, I wanted to share with you what makes Shipt a great company!

1. You can work ANY time, day or night.

Many customers have orders for pickup in the middle of the night or early morning. While the most popular time for shopping is between 3pm-8pm, you can find orders at ANY time of day!

2. You make your own schedule.

You decide when you want to work, how often you want to work, and what area you want to work in. You can choose more than one city to work in if you'd like. If you don't want to be on the schedule and only want to pick up orders, you can do that too!

3. You can work as little, or as much, as you want.

If you want to shop one order a week, you can do that! So long as you keep your stats high, Shipt is glad to have you on their team!

4. You get to wear cool apparel.

Shipt sends you a free shirt when you first get hired. If you want more apparel, you can buy it through their online store. The store features rain jackets, hoodies, and baseball tees to let you have style while you shop!

5. You don't get taxed on your money until you file for taxes.

As a Shipt shopper, you are considered an independent contractor which means you get all the money you make RIGHT AWAY. While you do have to pay taxes on this money later, having all of your money right now is a great way to pay off some bills!

6. You make money per order (which can be super lucrative)!

For smaller orders with fewer items, you can make anywhere between $6-$9 plus a tip. For larger orders with farther travel, you can make up to $30 plus a tip.

7. You earn tips!

Shipt users often tip their shoppers. Most of my tips range between $5-$10 per order!

8. There are sometimes promos where you can make extra, extra money!

When there are no shoppers able to pick up an order, the Shipt app will offer promos where if you take the order you will make extra money. You can make an extra $2, $5, $7, $10, $15, $20, or EVEN $40 depending on how close it is before the order needs to be delivered and how large the order is.

9. You are your own boss.

You get to decide how you want to shop and when you want to shop. Although Shipt has guidelines for you to follow, you get to do the shopping and delivery your way so long as it follows Shipt's model.

10. You can track your mileage and write it off on your taxes.

As a Shipt shopper, you will be delivering groceries to people's homes. Some locations are farther away than others. For that reason, you can use an app like Everlance to track your mileage so you can write off the miles driven on your taxes. This will lower how much you have to pay to the government in taxes since you are an independent contractor.

11. You get to look at lots of cool food items you might want to purchase in the future.

You will be shopping for a wide variety of customers, all of whom will want different food items. You will become familiar with foods you never knew existed and you may want to try some in the future!

12. The shifts are short.

The shifts range around 40 minutes to 1.5 hours for one shopping trip. To be able to make $9 plus a tip, in 40 minutes, is an amazing deal!

13. You get paid every Friday!

Weekly payment is always the best!

After all of the amazing things about working for Shipt, if you are interested in applying, you can go here. If I haven't convinced you yet, look in your local Meijer or Kroger for a person wearing a Shipt shirt and ask them how much they love working with Shipt; I am sure you will get the same answer I told you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
