Seven Secrets for Shopping TJX Stores

After working at HomeGoods for sometime now, I feel like I've picked up a few tips and tricks for any TJX store. Here are a few tips to make shopping at HomeGoods, Tjmaxx, or Marshalls easy as pie!

1. ALWAYS Check Clearance

Sometimes we will mark down products that are in the store but we might get that exact product the following week. It might be only a dollar difference but it's nothing different! Most the times things are clearance because they've been in the store longer or there may be some damage to the product. If you see an employee marking items in your section, ask for a markdown check on your items. Check first!

2. Shop Later

I've worked morning and night shifts and I suggest shopping later in the day or night. The trucks come in the morning and we start flowing for the rest of the day. New things are mostly out by the nighttime, or take a peak early in the morning! I highly suggest shopping on the weekdays, you have more options and the store is more full!

3. STOP Looking for that one Item

A lot of people come to HomeGoods looking for one item. But the TJX stores is not the place to look for one particular item just because you're not always guaranteed it's there.

4. Check Other Locations

Sometimes going into different stores gives you different items you might not find in the TJX store closet to you. If we had an item a week ago it's better to check if the store a few towns over received it or still has it!

5. January and July

When the seasons switch and the store is being rearranged that's when most things are marked down. For example the end of July they begin marking down all things summer to move it and make room for the new merchandise heading into fall.

6. Get the Credit Card

If you shop at the TJX stores often or you make a large purchase, for example on furniture, you may want to sign up for theTJX Rewards Card. By signing up, you’ll receive a 10% off on your first purchase and then a $10 rewards certificates for every 1,000 points you earn.

7. Seasonal Early

Shop our seasonal goods early. We'll receive things quite early but it can be picked over when you come looking for fall things the last week of September. However, usually the day of or after everything is marked down, for example Easter or Valentine's Day those things are marked down the day of usually.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
