Until recently I never knew that the black market was actually real. But now, I can admit that I am scared to realize it actually is. Here are some facts about the black market that I bet you didn't know.
1. The black market is actually called the "deep web". It's an untraceable part of the internet that requires a bunch of various software to access. The deep web actually requires its users to buy and sell using bitcoins. Bitcoin is a payment system that is international and cuts out the middle man in order to reduce tracing.
2. You can buy pretty much anything illegal that you can think of. There are various marketplaces on the deep web for different kinds of services and "goods". You can hire hit men, serums, poisons, banned books, etc.
3. The government has not and will not attempt to shut down the deep web because to do so would be too time-consuming. The fear is also that after eliminating the deep web, it would reappear.
4. Much of what happens on the dark net has been reported as fraudulent. For example, hitmen have been hired and never followed through. People have paid for narcotics that they never received. But, obviously, no one is being prosecuted for fraudulent behavior when there are illegal transactions being made.
5. There is a Netflix series based off of the deep web called "Darknet". It follows various character's use of the website and gives them a back story to go along with it.
6. The deep web has a thriving economic system.
7. Journalists can use the deep web to bypass censorship. This way they can never be prosecuted for having certain information since it can not be traced back to them.
Overall, learning about the black market over the past week has proved to be a good way to waste time and freak yourself out. If you'd like to read more stories about the deep net follow this link.. Or this one here.
