There are seven billion people in the world. Ok, I’m aware this sounds the like beginning of a Judy Blume elementary school novel. I promise you, though, it’s getting somewhere.
Let me preface this by saying my brain is pretty much mush because I just finished finals, so this may be straight word vomit, but it does have a meaning. I don’t know if it’s because the semester just ended, or people graduating, or a lack of sleep or what, or if it was because I had a lot of time to think on my seven hour drive home yesterday, but lately I've been thinking some pretty deep thoughts just about life in general.
And this is where I circle back to that seven billion people statistic. Isn’t it crazy how there are seven billion people in the world and there are just a select few who get placed into your life in the grand scheme of things? Some of those people that you run across out of those seven billion, sure, you probably wouldn’t mind not encountering. But others, you think, how did you get so incredibly lucky that the good ones got weaned out of the crowd and plopped right on down into your life, family and friends included.
Going away to college more than six hours from home, I had to branch out. It wasn't a matter of choice when you start at a school that you don't know anyone. This wasn't a very hard task for me being a communications major, however, in branching out and meeting people all over campus, I met and became friends with so many incredible people in different disciplines and majors, with different talents.
And in the midst of everything, you're not consciously thinking, "wow, I can't believe that I was fortunate enough to meet this person. I can't believe that out of all of the people in the world, our paths crossed." But then reflecting on it, it is pretty crazy how the world works when you do realize that.
So, just think about all of the people you've met and come across over the course of your lifetime. It may be a ton. It may not be. Regardless, just think about how many more there are out there, how many more gems there are in that seven billion.
