There is still a few more weeks until the class of 2016 starts their final year as undergraduates. The possibility of making it to senior year and having it end is surreal. It feels like we just got here. We finally got the hang of being college students and now they are making us leave.
This is the most terrifying time of our lives. There are hundreds of things that could go wrong.
There is an endless list of "what-ifs." What if you don't get a job, or worse, what if you do, but find out 10 years later it was the wrong job. What if your friends don't get jobs? The numbers for how many 2015 graduates had real careers waiting for them are shocking. But even if you do manage to get a job—what if you move away and can't make friends? Paying bills is just number one of an endless list of fears of being an ~adult~.
This is the most exciting time of our lives. There are hundreds of things that could go right.
We have the world before us. The possibilities are endless. You can keep up with school; some of us might even become doctors. Or you can never spend another day in a classroom. You can start a business—maybe using your new degree to start something you love, like a brewery. You can join a company in a new city, see new places, and meet new people. Adulthood isn't all that bad—we can do anything we want. And it's gonna be rad to get a real paycheck.
Basically, this is the most confusing time of our lives. In the next few months, we are supposed to have it all figured out. The time of answering "I don't know" to "What are you going to do with that major?" is nearing an end. And while this may seem scary, it's also thrilling because this is the beginning of the rest of our lives.
