Senior Year: As Told By Matt Bellassai

Senior year is a whirlwind of many different emotions. You're the top dog on campus. You know the ins and outs of the school. Although you have all of the perks of being a senior, the reality of being a real adult with real responsibilities is pretty scary. Matt Bellassai, host of To Be Honest, a weekly video series where he gets drunk by himself and tells you how to live your life, is the perfect level of sass and honesty. Every senior knows the struggle, and apparently, so does Matt.

Everything Is Extremely Expensive.

Fitting class, homework, work, meetings and friends into your calendar is basically like a game of Tetris. Sometimes it feels like keeping up with your schedule is a full time job. Graduation gowns, weekend activities, eating at the local favorites as many times as you can... all of these things add up. Plus, we all know we should be saving so we can afford an apartment, utilities, groceries, cable, furniture and whatever else real adults pay for.

All Your Motivation Was Spent As An Undergrad.

Getting out of bed, attempting to be presentable and making your way to class is just too much to ask some days. Your professors should be happy you made it on time and forget about the fact that you didn't brush you hair. Freshman year you planned out your outfit, perfected your hair and never had chipped nail polish. Senior year you have mismatched socks, a wrinkly shirt and bags under your eyes from your lack of sleep.

What Is The Real Goal?

There will always be those kids in class that try to hard or ask too many questions. There are perfectionists and people who always think they're right. Why can't we all just coexist? Aren't we all here for the same thing? A diploma so we get a good job so we can buy all of the chicken nuggets our heart desires.

Everyone Asks What You Are Doing After College.

Everyone and their mother asks you what you have planned for after you graduate. It's like a repeat of senior year of high school. Did they really care what college we are attending or what we are studying? The stress it places on those seniors that don't have a plan or job offer is tremendous. Sometimes you just don't know yet. Backpacking around Europe sounds really nice right about now.

Your To-Do List Has Been Overflowing For Weeks (Or Months).

Exams, homework, applying for jobs, interviews galore. It always seems like there are never enough hours in the day. Ain't nobody got time to be interrupted. Checking off all of your to-do list items feels amazing but it can only happen with time of uninterrupted quiet time. If my headphones are in, my social skills are off.

Getting Out Of Bed Is One Of The Biggest Struggles Of The Day.

Staying in bed under the warm covers all day seems like a great option literally every morning. Sometimes it takes a full pep talk to pull off the covers and rise from bed. Skipping one more class won't hurt anyone, right?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
