I've always loved music. Music has always had a certain way of speaking to me unlike any other medium of art, and because of that, I've always wanted to have a part in it. Whether it be singing, or attempting to play the keyboard in my room, or learning some new tips and tricks to improve the one instrument I can play: guitar.

As a guitar player, I'm always looking for new (well, new to me) songs that show off great guitar parts, whether it be a sick progression of chords in rhythm guitar or a killer solo from someone who can shred up and down the frets. The following songs are some of the tracks from my "Guitar" playlist that I want to learn most. Some I know most of, some I know a bit of, and some I haven't attempted at all yet, but each one has caused me to close my eyes and imagine it's me playing it.

1. "One" — Metallica

Metallica features not one, but two great heavy metal guitarists in the forms of James Hetfield (also the lead singer) and Kirk Hammett, who was rated 11th on Rolling Stone's list of top 100 guitarists. One is not just a song, but a story about a World War 1 soldier who loses all of his limbs, as well as his abilities to see, hear or speak, who is begging God for death. Yeah, pretty dark stuff, but boy is the music fantastic.

2. "A Matter Of Trust" — Billy Joel

Even though Billy Joel is most famously the Piano Man, many of his songs feature great guitar work. Though Joel will play guitar in concert sometimes, David Brown is responsible for the guitar in the studio version of this particular song.

3. "Stay" — Post Malone

Most people know Posty pretty well by now, and how he became guitar fluent by deciding that he wanted to learn the real thing rather than just constantly getting the high score on Guitar Hero. This emotional song features just Post, his guitar, and his feelings.

4. "Hammer to Fall" — Queen

Ah, where to start... Everyone knows Freddy Mercury or Queen in some way or another, but sometimes Freddy can overshadow the other members of the band like guitarist Brian May, whose rock n' roll chords and solo in this track put it over the top for me.

5. "At Doom's Gate" — Bobby Prince

Hey look I'm talking about Doom again! Though it is very heavily based on a few different popular metal songs from of the time, the theme from Doom Episode 1 Mission 1 (E1M1) of the original 1993 game has since become iconic, as well as subject to a very heavy metal remix by Mick Gordon (which I also love.)

6. "They're Hanging Me Tonight" — Marty Robbins

I've never been the biggest fan of country music, but Western/cowboy tunes are a different story. Something about the acoustic fingerpicking style with the lyrical stories of old Western cowboys over them just makes me happy. This song features a great acoustic riff and smooth storytelling vocals by Robbins.

7. "Everybody Hurts" — R.E.M

Just about every UGA student knows R.E.M simply due to the fact that they got their start in Athens, Georgia. After hearing this particular song featured in Amazon's TV series The Boys, where it's played to make you feel bad and sympathetic for a character that you maybe shouldn't feel so bad for. But it still works; because the song is so incredible that it brings the emotions out of you whether you want it to or not.

8. "Take On Me" — a-ha

Everyone should be familiar with this song on one level or another; millennials will probably recognize it as the song from a few popular Vines (yeah, remember that platform?) Though the main riff of the song features what sounds like a keyboard to my ears, the notes I'm sure could easily be learned on a guitar.

9. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" — Tears for Fears

It's true, everyone does, and this song will make you feel that way. It's hard to put into words, so I'm simply going to have to recommend that you listen to it and be inspired to rule the world around you (within reason.)

10. "Cocaine" — Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton (a.k.a. Slowhand) has been an inspiration of mine since I first picked up the guitar. Songs like "Tears in Heaven" and "Wonderful Tonight" were among some of the first I tried to learn in my very beginning days of the guitar.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
