Whether on campus or off, once you move away to college, roommates are a part of the packaged deal. It can be intimidating as the horror stories certainly tally up and can even sadly make you have some of your own to share. Rest assured, roommates aren’t as scary as they seem. If you give them the chance, they can actually prove to be a nice presence to the space you share with them. Here are just a couple reasons why having roommates can add quite the delight to your everyday life!
1. You can stay up as late as you want and not feel guilty about it.
When you don’t feel like doing your homework and just wanna stay up watching a "Chopped" marathon, you won't be alone. If no one else is going to bed, then why should you?
2. You have someone who can give you an honest opinion on how you look.
They’ll make sure you go out looking the best you can be. Maybe even by lending you a lipstick or a bracelet for the night, you’re sure to be going out in style thanks to a second opinion.
3. You can vent to someone when you need to.
It’s always nice to have a good chat when you really need to let off some steam after a long day of work and classes. They can lend a listening ear, some helpful advice, and a cup of tea to ease your troubles.
4. You can bond with them over things you can’t with your friends.
It’s nice to be able to indulge in your obsessions with someone new. Someone who doesn’t mind you bringing up "Harry Potter" for the hundredth time or your predictions for the new season of "Game of Thrones." It also helps bring you closer together and something to bond over.
5. You will never go hungry.
Someone will always be cooking something, or be willing to go downstairs to pick up the Chinese food. Or when someone picks up a coffee they don’t like or are making a run to get cupcakes because they have a craving. No matter what the case may be, you will always be well fed.
6. You always have someone to go to events with you that you would never dare go to by yourself.
When none of your friends or significant other can’t make it, your roommate is always your standby date to accompany you. Plus, it beats another night staying home on the couch. To have someone to go out with who’s got your back will sure to make any night out a success.
Roommates can prove to be great confidants if you let them. But if your roommates end up not meeting these expectations, just get a dog. It's the next best thing.
