Second Semester As Told By "Friends"

"It's like you're always stuck in second gear, when it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year..."

As the end of the year approaches, we are all dealing with ridiculous amounts of stress. We are juggling 15 page papers, reading last week's chapter for class (and the week before's) while also trying to stay on top of all our other responsibilities. It's gotten to the point where you have five reminders written on your desk, white board, planner, and a few sticky notes here and there... and still managed to forget the meeting that you had scheduled for 15 minutes ago. I don't know about you, but I've reached the point where the overwhelming about of stress has numbed my brain, and I feel like I'm dangerously close to delusional. Even though life is a little messy right now, I think as college students we can relate to a few of our favorite Friends moments.

1. You feel kind of like a grown up... but not really.

We managed to get through yet another semester in one piece! We've been able to hold it together when we were convinced that the universe was working against us. We're at the age where we're taking on more serious responsibilities, and want to be treated, and looked at as an adult. But we're at that weird stage where we're too young to do the things that we want to do, and too old to do the other half.

"Welcome to the real world. It sucks! you're gonna love it." - Monica

2. The realization that the year is almost over begins to set in, and you still have no idea what you're doing with your life.

In the midst of adjusting, keeping your grades up, and maintaining a social life, time has slipped away from us. It feels like we just moved in, and now we're approaching the final few weeks of the semester. I feel like just yesterday I was lugging all my belongings up the stairs into my dorm room, walking into my new classes, and meeting my friends. But if you stop for a moment, it will hit you. Time is moving extremely fast, and if you listen hard enough, you may even hear a few sobs, because it's been another nine months and you still have no idea what you're doing with your life.

3. Forgetting about the paper that was due yesterday.

All I can say is that we've all been there... a few times.

"You've been BAMBOOZLED" - Joey

4. 8 AMs and 9:20s become nearly impossible.

The motivation that you may have had in the beginning of the semester to get up out of bed and get to class on time, is now at an all time low. The all-nighters certainly don't help, and even when you actually get to bed on time, it still seems nearly impossible to get yourself up. The five alarms that you have set on your phone have all gone off, and you've already rolled and decided you weren't going over a half hour ago. "Did the professor say that attendance was mandatory?"

5. It's allergy season! But you're still determined to get your work done.

It's that time of the year again! Everyone is sniffling, and walking around with a pack of tissues in their back pockets. Finals are approaching quickly, but we're all suffering together.

6. The smallest things entertain you when you're running away from your responsibilities.

Literally anything will distract you when you're avoiding all the work that is sitting on your desk. A cough drop wrapper? sure. An empty water bottle? yes. The knot in your headphones? Of course. Hey, the floor is looking a little dusty too. Should probably clean up a little.

7. None of the classes that you want to take are available next semester.

I couldn't have said it any better.

8. You've become extremely comfortable with your friends.

We've gotten to the point in the semester where we've all become extremely comfortable. You can mess around, say anything without having to worry about what their response may be, and shoot a few funny face across the room.

9. When you're having a bad day, and someone asks you what you're doing.

Everyone has those days where every little thing bothers you. Whether you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or somewhere along the way you just hit rock bottom, you're in a mood, and everyone should stay clear. "Hey, what are you doing?" "WHAT DOES IT LOOK I'M DOING?"

10. Eating before class because you stayed in bed until the last possible minute.

11. Looking forward to the days you have off.

Having Wednesdays off definitely breaks up the week, and makes the work load a little more manageable. Also, gets us a little closer to the weekends, and an excuse not to get out of bed.

" I would wish I could, but I don't want to" -Phoebe

11. "OH MY GOD."

That voice we hated so badly... we now completely get it.

12. Not being sure about how to feel about how you're actually feeling.

At this point, you're not even sure how you're feeling. Even if you think you have a pretty good idea, you wouldn't even know how to begin to express it in words.

"Up until the age 25, I thought the only response to "I love you" was "Oh crap." - Chandler

13. You would do anything for food.

Anything with the word free in front of it automatically attracts a college student's attention, but put the word food after it, and it's a sure deal.

" You hung up on the pizza place? You don't hang up on your friends." - Joey

14. Realizing that summer is around the corner and you're not going to see your friends everyday.

Summer is a few short weeks away, and it's beginning to hit us all that we're not going to be able to see our friends every day. What about family dinners to the caf? and walking in and out of each other's rooms? It's been a great year, so let's enjoy the last few weeks, and look forward to next semester, and doing everything all over again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
