A week ago, I was fourtunate enough to be able to see Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. For those who do not know, Postmodern Jukebox is a group who takes current and past hits ranging from such as The Notorious B.I.G's "Juicy" and *NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" to Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling" and recreates them using styles from different era's. By doing this, the sound and versions of the songs are unique. This group, in my opinion, seems to be the one thing linking my generation as well as older generations.
When walking in to the venue with my friend, we noticed the audience age ranged tremendously, from people in their twenties to people in their late fifties early sixties. As the lights dimmed, the stage lit up and after the MC gave the introduction, the band started and the audience stood, sang and clapped along as "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga was being recreated by a whistle, piano, horns, and a tap dancer. This is when I noticed that this was more than just music. But a way that older crowds who think today's music isn't as good as it was when they were younger could stay connected to today's music that the younger generations listen to.
This group's music is not just for listening but for watching as well. If you have the chance to see them live I highly recommend it. Scott Bradlee has found amazing talent from all over and brought them together to give a performance you will never forget. With a rotating group of singers who sing solo or as duets or trios some songs are better live because they are able to add to them. The talent ranges from of course singing, but also tap dancing and adding more to the music with the sounds, beatboxing, playing an instrument in the middle of singing, and much more. At the time of writing this article they have only been to nine of the 43 cities on their tour so if they are coming near you I highly recommend going to see them. But if you can not go below is three videos to some of their covers which can be used to link to YouTube and allow you to watch more if interested.
