Summer is finally here. We've overcome so many obstacles this past academic year. We've all seen the tears of our fellow classmates, crying over the abundance of exams and projects. We've also blown off our academic responsibilities, and just sat in our dorm and cried with Netflix by our side. As entertaining as this was, the effects are shown in our grades (shh, trying to hide those from my mom). But good news, summer is finally here. It's the moment that we've been waiting for during these past nine gruesome months. So relax and watch Netflix (some more). The hardest part of this year is gone (until next semester) and now the fun begins.
Oh the hot summer days. They call for various adventures around your hometown. It's the time where all of your high school friends and yourself gather together and return to your old but heartwarming habits. You catch up. Each of you go around in a circle and talk about your best, funniest and worst moments during your college experience. You maybe even make some connections with your stories and sit there and laugh, like the good ol' times. While you catch up, you also make sure to stop by your favorite hangouts. These might include restaurants like Whole Foods or late night Cane's runs. Each of these places holding special memories to us. Although we weren't able to enjoy their atmospheres during the year, we take full advantage of what we can during the summer. So, take those adventures. Being with your friends once again is so comforting and it's something that doesn't happen often.
You know all of those countless TV shows and movies that you have on your Netflix queue? Watch them right now. There won't come another moment that you can literally sit back and do nothing. Wrap yourself up in your favorite blanket with your favorite snack in hand and binge watch. Yes, your parents might be a little mad at you (because you know, grades) but also because you're not being "productive". But here's what I say to that: "I worked so hard this year and I barely slept. I can be productive next year. So, please just let me chill." So, take comfort in Netflix because soon you're going to have to put it to the side once again in August.
Enjoy these few breather moments that we have. Yes, college was fun but it was very very stressful. We need this time to sit back and recharge because we know that the battle isn't over. So, don't wish away the summer. Although you might have the disapproval of your parents, know that it's perfectly and completely normal to not want to leave your room. Enjoy your bed as much as you can. Enjoy your friends and the company that they give. Enjoy your pets and the unconditional love. Enjoy your family because the time you have with them is precious. Finally, enjoy your summer, cause 1. it only happens once a year, and 2. there's nothing like being home again.
