Despite the opinion of what seems to be the majority of people, I don't consider watching scary movies a good pass time. Cue the exaggerated gasps.
Thriller, horror, whatever floats your imaginary boat to the darkest depths of your mind, not unlike Georgie's boat into it's sewer, me and my zero-tolerance for fear want nothing to do with it.
Aside from being the scaredy cat that I am, the plots just all seem drearily similar. If I'm ever going to crap my pants, I can assure you it will not be because the thing that senselessly murders finally pops on the screen from thin air and kills the person you knew was going to die since you first saw the trailer.
No. If I ever do, it will be because I absolutely refuse to get up from my couch for innumerable hours due to the Nicholas Sparks marathon you can bet I'm happily binge-watching. Did someone say Notebook rerun?
I'm also fine with not spending two hours of my life in a full-on flight or flight panic mode. Since we don't normally find ourselves fending for our lives in the wild running from wild boars or what have you anymore, our fight or flight responses are common for trivial everyday activities.
I'm in college. I get enough of that feeling from stressing about life in general. If you think I want to spend two hours of my free time feeling like I'm moments away from taking an exam I don't quite feel ready for, think again. That may be your cup of tea, but it certainly isn't mine.
There's also the small thing about being able to sleep well at night without worrying if you're next on the hit list. Some people are good at playing it cool, but when the lights go out and you're left alone with your thoughts, is it really the cute kitten videos you saw on Facebook that are dominating your thoughts?
Just as you will never understand why I avoid scary movies like the plague, I will never understand why you get so excited about watching them.
You like to watch people's mental stability shatter and then watch them get butchered? Oh, that's cool, but I would strongly advise on never saying that on a first date.
As you can guess, I always get hit with the "You don't know what you're missing!"
Actually, I read the plot on Wikipedia and I'm kind of ok with what I'm missing out on and keeping my sense of security, a good night's sleep, and not having never-ending thoughts about the images I just forever burned into my mind.
I watch movies to escape, and I would prefer not to escape to a world filled with horror, sadness, and murder. But thanks for your concern.
