Say Goodbye to 2016
Happy New Years Greetings

With a new year right around the corner, I thought that I would write about what a year 2016 has been. Most recently we have seen hate and violence that has haunted this year in the events unfolding in Aleppo, Syria. Thousands of innocent civilians were killed solely because they couldn't escape in time; and all the while, the world turns a blind eye.

We can never and probably will never forget the election cycle. It was a bloodbath and now many Americans are left feeling hurt and uncertain for our countries future. The economy is growing still, theres a chance that the stock market will close at its highest point in history. A renewal in the push for equality in civil rights has started. All of this and much more has made this year a full one.

No matter your experience with this year, good or bad, there are several take aways that we can use to make the best of every year from now own.

Take advantage of the tools in your hands. Chances are, if you're reading this, you have a smart phone. This year we have seen great strives through social media. Twitter is the place to go for up to date information in todays world. This year has proven that if you aren't spending time online then you are falling behind. Young adults would rather get their news in 140 characters instead of CNN or Fox News. Being able to use social media and staying up to date is an easy way to have meaningful conversations and promote a more informed society.

Secondly, don't be afraid to be an activist. In this past 12 months we have seen the rise of movements that promote better opportunities for several people groups. People are starting to speak out against injusitce in the world and peole are taking time to understand issues that we face as a society. Being an activist doesn't mean you have to lead a rally, host a conference or even shout it from the rooftops. Live your normal life, stand up for what you believe, and you will be an activist.

Lastly, don't give up on tomorrow. Maybe your candidate didn’t win, maybe you didn't pass that class or get that gpa, maybe your heart was broken. No matter what your circumstance is, don't let what happened distract you from whats about to happen. You are somewhat in control of what tomorrow brings you. If you don't like today then don't redo it; don't get stuck in a cycle. So many new doors are always waiting to be opened. What's going to happen can be as big and as glorious as you allow it to be but you can’t stay trapped in the bad happenings of the past.

2017 is waiting for you. Make this year what you want it to be, make it your dream year. Make this year great!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
