Hey there! I guess during this month of June, there will be the global holiday known as World Environment Day to celebrate. And I have to say that I have been practicing some methods for quite some time now to help conserve energy as well as other natural resources in my personal life. I believe that this Earth of ours is getting older by the minute and we as inhabitants of it should do all that it takes to help keep it clean and healthy for us and future generations to benefit from.

Honestly, I learned about these ways while I was growing up from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) pamphlets that they would give out in high school and college as well as from ads on TV and the Internet.

So give me your full attention now as I list about 15 out of the many ways out there that we need to do in order to save our planet and the environment...

1. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth

You can save a lot of water from doing this.

2. Always recycle stuff

You can save a lot of natural resources when you recycle stuff like paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, cardboard, etc.

3. Use “cold” mode when washing your clothes in the washer machine

You can save electricity when you do this as warm and hot modes tend to use it more.

4. Use recycled paper in your home

Use all of a paper when you jot down notes and you can also use all sides of a paper when you are printing stuff from your computer.

5. Have a vegetarian day once every week

Select a day from your week to avoid eating meat and just feast on fruits and vegetables and food products that are not animal-based.

6. Shorten your shower time

When you are showering, shorten the time you take to do it. Also, always choose showers instead of baths. It saves water you know?

7. Turn off lights when you’re not in a room

An age-old advice here, always remember when you do not use a room anymore, just turn off the lights in it. Saves electricity.

8. Don’t use plastic bags anymore for your grocery shopping

Because plastic bags are notorious for ending up in streams, lakes, and the ocean, we need to have them disappear altogether and for people to use reusable, recyclable bags. They are cheap and are used over and over until they wear down (usually in 10 months -time) and then you can get another one for a low price of course.

9. Pay your bills online

In order to save the costs of sending snail mail, manufacturing of paper, and the cutting down of trees, pay your bills online.

10. Cancel your paper bank statements

Same as previous.

11. Eat less beef and pork

Since beef and pork are known to carry diseases, it is safe to say that chicken and seafood are healthier. Also, to save those animals from being slaughtered and to boost their populations, opt for chicken and seafood as they are more abundant.

12. Turn off appliances when you are not using them

Some appliances when they are plugged in are known to use up energy, therefore, you should unplug them when you are not using them. Some appliances when they are plugged, are known to use up energy, therefore you should unplug them when you are not using them.

13. Use windows to regulate the temperature

To keep your home cool during spring and summer, open your windows for the natural air to come through. This will enable you to turn off your air condition during these seasons. If the days are extremely hot, then open your windows at nighttime to let the cool air in and when the morning comes, close them while the cool air from the night before is trapped in, cooling you and your family.

14. Telecommute if you can

If you are looking for a new job, then choose to work from home because that will keep vehicles (your car or public transportation) from using gasoline which has some negative effects on the air outside.

15. Do not waste water

Above all, do not waste water. Turn the faucet off when you are scrubbing dishes (handwashing), or don’t rinse dishes before you put them in your dishwasher, etc.

And there you have them! Please be advised that these are just some but you can find a whole lot more ideas by googling phrases such as "HOW TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT" or "TIPS ON SAVING OUR PLANET." Be a saint and keep our planet strong and resourceful for us and our children. Talk to you later!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from.
