Misconceptions Of Heavy Music

If you're like me you tend to listen to fairly heavy music. That being said, people tend to think that you are an angry, spiteful and even hateful person just because of the type of music that you listen to. That is quite ridiculous in my honest opinion. Just because I listen to music that has screaming or growling in it does not mean by any stretch of the mind that I am going to hell. In fact most of the time I enjoy the message that the lyrics give you which is, contrary to popular belief, not some strange form of a satanic ritual, but in fact, for the most part, a positive message that the band wants to give to their fans.

The fact that people will tell me that the music that I listen to will cause me to have anger problems is quite ridiculous. By that logic, if someone listens to EDM they have a tendency to do hard drugs. That's just ludicrous to even begin to rationalize as fact in any way, shape or form. How can you be so judgmental as to assume that everyone that belongs to a particular group is exactly the same? Most people who listen to metal or heavy music are actually some of the kindest people that I've ever met.

Another misconception is that people who listen to heavy music are more likely to suffer from mental health issues such as depression and the like. First of all, this is offensive to those who deal with mental health issues, by saying that if they don't listen to a specific type of music they'll be magically cured is insane seeing as depression can happen to anyone it doesn't matter what type of music they actually listen to. Second of all, for the most part the type of music that a person listens to tends to be an escape from what they are dealing with in real life and they're able to use the songs to help them get through whatever issues that they might be dealing with. For example, if someone had lost a relative, they could go to music to be able to find a healthy way to deal with all of that pain that they would be feeling instead of going to any other form of release that would be seen as unhealthy.

The last main misconception that I'm going to touch on is the fact that most people see heavy bands as satanic. While there may be dark themes in some of the music, I don't see any heavy band as directly satanic. For the most part, these bands have very positive themes in the songs that they write. While the instrumentals might not be for the older crowd they are in no way inherently evil or bad in form. For the most part they are generally good and promote very good things such as liking oneself and expressing pain through healthy means.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
