2013. Remember that year? Here's something you probably didn't know. If you follow Roosterteeth's channel on Youtube or just follow them in general, you've probably also heard of RWBY (Ruby). RWBY is a story following four fantastic characters, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao-Long. They are but students in a world where soulless creatures wish to devour them whole. Their brutal training to be huntsmen and huntresses at Beacon Academy in Vale, overseen by Professors Ozpin, Goodwitch, Port, and Oobleck, is anything but simple. Tragedy and pain follow them all every step of the way, the same goes for their friends, Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Pyrrha Nikos, and Lie Ren. In this world, huntsmen and huntresses protect civilians from the creatures of Grimm, soulless beasts that know neither compassion nor mercy. Each quality they have will either help them or hinder their growth into the protectors the world needs, but, for now, they are just children.
Why does this matter? The show itself is centered around female characters, so, if you're exhausted of strong male characters, RWBY will be sure to get you involved. Along with this, another element of importance is humor. In every volume, there is some sense of whimsical humor. As well as the humor, the thrilling and heart-wrenching story itself is a masterpiece that deserves recognition. The production itself has evolved since its beginning in 2013. Animation has improved immensely, along with the writing. Speaking of which, all of Roosterteeth's writing is impeccable in and of itself, but it has improved greatly. Before, it seemed to be your classic hero-type story. Almost like the One Punch Man anime or Superman movies, but, now, it has made a distinction in the hero stories. Arguably the best part of this show: the hero doesn't always win. It's refreshing for the ounce of realism, and being unable to know what side the writers are really on. Relating to One Punch Man, RWBY has that anime feel without having all of the anime stereotypes, it really is a standalone show.
All in all, RWBY is a show truly worth watching. Volume three is an emotional ride, but it's most certainly worth it. It's story is among the best I've ever watched. As an avid watcher, I reccommend 10/10. As a critic, I'd give probably 9.5/10, only because of the first season's animation. However, do not let that stop you. Watch till your heart's content, and enjoy what Roosterteeth has to offer in this amazing show!
