Believe it or not, the running man dance was not made by millennials. The original version of this modern day trend was made popular in the late 1980s and 1990s by popular hip hop culture, such as the likes of MC Hammer, Salt-N-Pepa, and The Fresh Prince, just to name a few.
But in the latter part of February this year, this dance was modified and went viral starting with two high school students from New Jersey and then two members of the Maryland basketball team. This amusing dance challenge grabbed the attention of many sports teams and individuals alike causing a massive video flood on social media feeds.
The amusing part of this dance trend is that, the signature trend music, which is My Boo by Ghost town DJ's, was recorded in 1995 and the video showed traits of this dance. In most of the videos for this dance challenge, a group of people had to use the element of surprise and subtle creativity making their videos more popular than others.
