People of America, after reading this article, you may consider yourself personally informed and aware of the current distress call coming from the children in the foster care system. There are roughly 400,000 children in the United States foster care system, and out of the 400,000, 100,000 are waiting to be adopted. Each year, 30,000 children age out of the foster care system without a family or a future. The IQ of children raised in an orphanage is an average of 20 points lower than that of children raised in family homes. According to statistics from orphanhopeintl.org, 60 percent of females that age out of foster care become prostitutes, and 70 percent of males become hardened criminals.
These facts I give to you, not to discourage you in the current state of the world, but to raise awareness of only a portion of the distressed foster care and orphaned children are in today. I wish to bring all of this to your attention in hopes that someone may hear their call for help and hope. Orphaned and foster care children are not mere damaged goods to be given a number and a spot on the shelf of a corrupt system, but are precious humans in desperate need of love and care. They have been used, abused, and broken by others who cannot see their value, and are simply waiting helplessly for the cushioned, pampered, blessed, and protected to come around and lend a hand.
Next week, I will be at a camp, bonding with children who live in the foster care system. The kids that attend this camp have gone through the toughest situations imaginable, and have received the most brutal of injuries both physical and mental. However, at Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC), we plan to help mend whatever wounds we can through swimming, swinging, singing, and sharing in love. For the safety of the kids, I cannot reveal the location of the camp, or the names of the children, but I can share what we will be doing while at camp, and how you as the average American citizen can help. RFKC provides a week of classic camp fun, from fishing, to arts and crafts, to riding horses, etc., all in a safe environment that they may not be used to. We give them gifts, throw them parties, and fill their tummies with the best of foods.
Along with physical fun, RFKC provides loving counselors who are there to show and teach the children of their worth, and that they are deserving of much more than what life has given them thus far. We tell them of their own strength, in order to encourage them into the future, and share with them the hope of Jesus that is greater than any circumstance that they may find themselves in when they get “home”.
RFKC runs off of donations, so any and every penny that is given helps in abundant ways. If this article has inspired you in any way, I encourage you to give the camp a quick Google search to see how you can give. All proceeds go to helping these foster children gaining a hope and a future. Check in next week for an update on how RFKC went this year and to see all that your generosity provided!
