To My Roommate: Thank You

I would like to thank my college roommate for these 10 things.

Roommates can make or break a college experience. I remember walking into my 4 bedroom apartment on move-in day, knowing that I would have to share a bedroom with someone I’d never met before. I’d heard all the stories about psycho roommates from hell and I was praying for my roommate to be normal. When the time finally came, I met my roommate. At first, we didn’t click but I figured we could deal with each other, but as time went on, we became super close and I’m lucky to call her one of my closest friends. We were quite honestly a match made in roommate heaven. Anyway, without further ado, here are ten things that I would like to thank my college roommate for.

1. Thank you for the jam sessions.

College is stressful and sometimes all I needed was a good lip-sync session. I can't begin to count how many times we screamed Downtown by Macklemore. Also, thank you for having a quality taste in music.

2. Thank you for going to parties with me

Monday-Thursday were designated as school days but I always knew Friday and Saturday we were going to turn up. Thank you for being my sidekick to all of the dance parties.

3. Thank you for the food runs

Whether it was to Taco Bell or our local all-you-can-eat pizza joint, I always knew I could count on you to say yes to a food run. P.S. Thank you for not judging me when I ate way too much pizza.

4. Thank you for sticking up for me

(An accurate representation of what happens when people are mean to me)

Remember when that dumb boy made me cry? You didn't need to stick up for me, but you did. Thank you for that.

5. Thank you for wiping away my tears

I know I sound like a dying whale when I sob and I know my crying face is worse than Kim K’s but thank you for putting up with it anyway and always wiping away my tears.

6. Thank you for letting me watch you grow up

Living on our own, away from our parents, really changed us and made us grow up quickly. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch you turn from a caterpillar into a butterfly. You've really blossomed.

7. Thank you for not being gross

Like I mentioned earlier, we’ve heard bad roommate stories about disgusting roommates. Thank you for not being one of them.

8. Thank you for listening

You're one of the best listeners I know. Thank you for listening to every single detail about every single date, both the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thank you for listening to my troubles and always giving me advice.

9. Thank you for the surprises

(An accurate representation of what I look like when you come home with food)

I always loved when you would come home and surprise me with Jamba Juice or some other sweet treat. Also, thank you for the sweet notes you would leave for me to find.

10. Thank you for loving me

Thank you for always making me feel loved when I felt unlovable. Sometimes being away from home can be lonely but you made it significantly less lonely. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you and I appreciate you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
