Romantic Comedies

Because who said falling in love can't be funny?

I am a die hard romantic. Not the Titanic sort of romantic but rather the romantic comedy type. There is something comforting in watching a romantic comedy where we all know how it’s going to end, the two main characters will end up with each other by the end of the movie, yay! It’s not rocket science and yet we still sit engrossed, hanging onto every word as if we don’t know what’s going to happen. So if you’re like me and devour romantic comedies, I have a list of my top favorites and trust me, the whole list could not fit on here. If I left out a good one, feel free to comment a favorite of yours.

When Harry Met Sally

I have watched this movie and know the lines by heart. It is the quintessential romantic comedy of all times. The premise of this movie revolves around the idea that men and women can’t be friends. Ultimately that happens to be true for the two main characters. They start out hating each other, become friends… and you know the rest.

27 Dresses

You know the saying “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride”? Well that’s the best way to describe our main character Jane. She is plain Jane. She is in love with her boss, who doesn’t know or notice her until her sister comes along and snags him for herself. Does Jane end up with her boss or does she find someone else to pique her interest? Will she finally become a bride or make it to the 28th dress?

Down with Love

This one is absolutely adorable. It’s based in the 1960’s with the gorgeous Ewan McGregor. The main character, Barbara Novak, writes a novel that turns everything topsy turvy for women and men during this time period, leaving it hard for her to find a boyfriend. Will this author end up eating chocolate in her living room or finding a man to spend her nights with?

My Best Friend’s Girl

Dane Cook is funny in stand up and funny in movies. Here he shines as the main character who happens to take girls on shitty dates only for them to go back to their equally shitty boyfriends. He does this until he meets the girl version of himself, making him wonder if he could do the whole relationship thing. Does he end up with the girl or does he strike out, only to go back to his previous profession?

To Catch a Thief

While this may be a Hitchcock film, I would consider this to be a romantic comedy rather than a suspense film. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly light up the screen in this film, sending sparks all over the screen. Grant plays a renowned cat burglar while Kelly is the rich girl with a desire for adventure. Will these two make it or will he find a way to steal out of her heart?

I’d Give it a Year

This is literally the most ridiculous yet realistic romantic comedy I’ve ever seen. It begins with a couple who has gotten married but through their first year realize that was a mistake. Watch as they figure out that sometimes it doesn’t work out and the people they end up falling for instead. The best friend adds to the entertainment of this film and the ending is priceless.

The Ugly Truth

Katherine Hiegl, the queen of romantic comedies, lights up the screen with Gerard Butler. They play the cliche main characters who hate each other but know deep down that are super attracted to each other. As they get to know each other they become friends as he helps her find the man of her dreams, knowing deep down it's him and not the paper copy of what she has found. The dialogue is hilarious and it is a definite battle against the sexes with this one.

John Tucker Must Die

Ever wondered what happens when a girl wants to get revenge on a guy for cheating? Well look no further, this is the film for you. It's hilarious yet unrealistic with the main characters being in high school trying to get back at John Tucker for playing them for a fool. In the end, friendships bloom as does a new romance.

The Duff

Another high school based romantic comedy with a great ending. The main character needs the help of the super hot school jock in order to land the guy of her dreams until she realizes it's not him at all, yet it is her hot jock neighbor. Can she overcome the mean girls and her Duff status to land the school hottie?

While I could go on and on with my favorite romantic comedies, here is a tid bit of good ones to get you through those nights of nothing to do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
