When it’s “Rick & Morty”!
“The Rickchurian Mortydate”, many viewers, including myself, thought it seemed a rather lackluster end for a season that has gotten steadily weirder and more involved with the arcs of their cast of characters. (Plus the wonderful insanity that was Pickle Rick!)
As the need to discuss the show in detail will be necessary, SPOILERS for “Rick & Morty” will be beyond this point. If you haven’t seen the show, I highly recommend it!
“Evil” Morty was now in charge of the Citadel. Even more so, was that there was no appearance of the resurrected, newly cyborg Phoenix person and deep-cover Galactic Federation agent Tammy Gueterman, after their post-credit scene in S3E1 “The Rickshank Redemption”.
This lead me to find out that the Season 3 had been cut down from 14 episodes to 10, announced by co-creator Dan Harmon recently. They took the 10
This theory goes beyond that. Basically, the idea is that it wasn’t the season finale:

finale episode would have to do with Evil Morty… which it didn’t.
“See ya for Season 4 in like … a really long time! I might even have a big, white Santa Claus beard!”
Between that comment and Rick’s admonition to the President in the Season Finale episode, “You don’t know what I am! And you don’t know what I can do! I’m Doctor Who in this motherfucker!”
So, what’s My theory?
Extrapolation: I could see the idea of airing a single episode on Christmas as a surprise, which would be something Harmon and Roiland would do to their fans. But FOUR? That seems like either a major misstep in plotting the season or quite an excessive amount of episodes to hold back on such a “surprise”.
Because of commercials, half-hour shows actually run 21-22 minutes. Four episodes would then run 84-88 minute, the runtime of a movie.
is a Sunday, the regular airing day for episodes of “Rick and Morty”!
We have to pass the time until Season 4 SOMEHOW...
