Happy almost Pig Roast, Richmond students! In less than a week, campus will be full of troops of students and alum in Lilly dresses and bow-ties, enjoying each other and the weather. Pig Roast is an annual Richmond tradition that students associate with sundresses, warm weather and day-drinking. Here's what you need to know about Pig Roast.
1. "Anything is possible with sunshine and a little pink."
Lilly Pulitzer dresses and pastel bow-ties are associated with sunshine and daytime soirees. Even if you aren't the sundress and bow-tie kind of guy/gal, ham it up and conform for just one day. You won't regret it.
2. It's 5 o'clock (a.m.) somewhere.
Don't squeal about being awake before your normal time. Prepare to wake up early to birds chirping, sun shining, pigs roasting and bottles popping.
3. Spiked seltzers are the new mimosas.
While mimosas are typically the drink of choice for pre-8 a.m. drinking, spiked seltzers will be making their debut onto the Richmond drinking scene this Pig Roast. A low-carb, low-cal and tasty drink with the same alcohol content as beer? I'll drink to that!
4. We might be dancing in the rain.
Currently, the weather forecast calls for rain on Pig Roast. Nothing will rain on our Pig Roast parade and the show will still go on as planned.
5. A nap is a must.
If you can make it to the end of the festivities, a 4 p.m. nap is essential if you plan on rallying later on in the day.
6. Be smart about being stupid.
Richmond authorities weren't born yesterday. They know what goes on at Pig Roast and will certainly step up security. Hopefully, the sundresses and bow-ties also bring a heightened sense of class.
7. Don't let the sun roast you too.
You will end up like a lobster Sunday morning if you don't put on sunscreen for Pig Roast. PSA: put on the sunscreen before you start drinking so you aren't bacon in the sun.
8. Have fun and don't die
Pig Roast only comes around once a year, so don't drink yourself into a coma before it begins.
Pig Roast is one of the only events that brings the entire campus outside and together and yes, there are actual pigs that get roasted. We've been looking forward to this day since the end of Pig Roast day last year, so soak up the sun or get soaked in the rain and let the good times roll.
