Pokémon Go was released earlier last week and it has swept the nation. In case you don't know what Pokémon Go is, it is a real time game in which you walk around, or have someone drive you around (please don't drive yourself and play at the same time), hunting for Pokémon to catch. Eventually when you level up enough you can go to gyms, which are local locations and battle to win the gym.
I have a semi unique perspective on this game in which I have never actually played Pokémon. I downloaded the game for the sole reason that everyone else was. I know I am one of "those" people. Jumping on bandwagons and pretending I'm edgy. I'm the worst, okay? Don't judge.
No matter the reason of download, I did it. I am actually obsessed; I walk everywhere playing this game, looking for Pokémon to catch. As I was leaving the movies last night I saw some fish thing (I don't know the name because this is my first Pokémon experience) and I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk in order to catch it. At first I got some mean looks from the couple behind me but when they saw what I was doing the whipped out their phone to see if they had any near by. I'm telling ya, it's addictive.
Now that I have started to play this game, I am beginning to regret not enjoying it as a child. Also, I regret making fun of those kids in middle school for battling during lunch. You guys rock! Keeping battling. Catch ‘em all!
At the end of the day, I don’t regret downloading the app. I don’t regret stopping my car in the middle of the parking lot to catch a Bulbasaur. I don't regret being late to a meeting because I had to walk across the parking lot to catch an Eevee.
My final review of this game, as someone who has never played Pokémon before, is that it is awesome. It’s a fun way to get up and move around, and I like having goals to complete. It is a cool way to connect with the world around you, in that when I see people walking in places looking at their phone I know what they are up to.
Though I wish the servers didn’t crash as much, but I can't really blame them. I don’t think they expected as many non-Pokémon fans to jump the bandwagon with the already-fans. I also wish there was a more solid way to have directions to get the little guys. Finally, I wish I could have a pink outfit with a skirt (but that’s a small request). Everyone should get Pokémon Go. Fan or not, it's innovative and fun. If you have downloaded it, happy hunting!
