Pure Barre has become one of my favorite workouts, and I just started about a month ago! You might have heard of Pure Barre—or maybe you haven’t—either way, you are in the right place.
What is Pure Barre?
Pure Barre is a 55-minute total body workout. Each class is split into sections: warm up, arms, thighs, seat and abs. You’ll begin class in the middle of the room and move to the ballet barre to work your thighs and seat. Pure Barre is designed to work to your muscles to exhaustion, so you’ll find your muscles shaking during class. This is perfectly normal because it means you are doing it right and will see results! It is all about small isometric movements to tone your body. You’ll often hear your instructor say, “up an inch or down an inch,” and it literally means an inch. This workout derives from ballet, but requires no dance experience.

The History of Pure Barre:
I was very curious about the history behind Pure Barre, because it is such a unique workout. Carrie Rezabek, a dancer and choreographer, founded Pure Barre in 2001, when she opened a studio in the basement of her home in Birmingham, Michigan. In 2009, Pure Barre began a franchise, and it has taken off all around the world.
What do you wear?
You are required to wear pants or capris. Also, you need to wear socks. You’ll see most women wearing socks with grippers on the bottom. I definitely recommend them because it helps you keep your balance. Most Pure Barre studios have socks you can purchase there. I’ve seen them at Target and Nordstrom, too.
Why do I love it?
Those first couple of classes were rough; I’m not going to lie. My legs, arms, abs and butt felt like jello. But, I promise it gets easier as your body gets stronger. It tones your muscles, without making them super bulky. It develops lean muscles like ballerinas. And, it is so fun. It is a workout I enjoy, and I honestly look forward to it in the mornings. I can feel my body getting stronger with each and every workout.
I also want to say you are never too old or young to do Pure Barre. I have seen women over the age of 50 in a Pure Barre class. There is absolutely no judgement. It is just so good for your body. It also improves your mind to body connection, balance and flexibility.
I encourage you to find a Pure Barre near you and check it out! Your first class is $10, and each class after that is $24, but you can purchase packages, as well. I am one hundred percent addicted to it.
Lift, tone and burn with Pure Barre!
