Valentine season is finally over, the blockbuster office for “love” movies are closely diminishing. Let’s talk about the second installment to the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel - Fifty Shades DARKER.
For everyone who didn’t see the first movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, you are not missing out. The movie takes place in Seattle, Washington. And a billionaire, Christian Grey, falls head over heels for an English major, Anastasia Steele. Within the movie, the two share PLENTY of inmate moments. However, within the inmate lovemaking scenes, the two discover each other’s interest and stories about their life. Christian Grey plays as a male protagonist and Anastasia plays as his “submissive.” The movie, itself, received a lot of hate for sexual abuse and the trauma of childhood abuse. Christian Grey’s red room included the sex toys and the room where all the sexual comes into play. Towards the end of the abuse scene, Anastasia leaves Christian with both of them saying each other’s name while the elevator door closes.
Now after “a few days,” which was actually two years since the first movie, after the breakup, Anastasia got a new job at the publishing company as a personal assistant. Christian Grey is haunted by the memories of his mother and recovering from the breakup between him and his ex-girlfriend, Anastasia. Later on, the two rekindle the relationship under one condition - no rules, no punishments, and no more secrets. Throughout the film, the couple encounters two women from his past, Elena Lincoln and Lelia Williams. Elena Lincoln was the woman who first introduced him to the sexual world between the protagonist and the submissive. Lelia Williams was a woman from the past who used to be his submissive. Throughout the film, the couple rediscovers themselves and act like a normal couple rather than treating Anastasia as a sex toy.
In my opinion, the film had no plot. The movie consisted of stalker ex-girlfriends and arguments leading to sex. The plot didn’t connect and when something was sorta connecting it reverted to another scene. Which lead to the audience saying, “What just happened?” However, I enjoyed Anastasia’s new character development rather than her character in the first film. She plays as more of a bad ass than an obedient partner to her sex driven boyfriend. But if I’m being completely honest, I felt the couple had no chemistry. Sure, the sex was “hot” but that’s all. I enjoyed this film’s ending than the last one. ONLY because it didn’t involve slapping someone, plus I’m a romantic so it worked for me.
Am I glad I watched it? Ehh.
Would I watch it again? No.
