“Tell me, I read somewhere that pirates worship the god Wassar? But I never saw what he was God of?” I looked over at Mason, he leaned against the side of the ship and stared out at the water. I faintly noticed his jaw twitch. We hadn’t spoken since we set sail.

“Wassar is the God of the seas and dimension travel,” he began, his voice was raspy. “Many pirates do worship him, however, I do not.”

“Really? Why not?” I asked, surprised.

“I wasn’t raised a pirate, remember?” He laughed bitterly. He continued, not letting me answer, “I worship a different God than him, I worship the God Ziel, God of spirit and life. Many Wiccans worshiped him.”

“Hmm, that's interesting,” I said softly. “Wait, you said Wassar is the God of dimension travel?”

“Yea, pirates are notorious for travelling dimensions, it’s easy for us since we have an unlimited supply of crystals. They give us the power we need to get back when were done there,” he explained. If I could go back…just for a little bit. This was my home now, but to see how my original family was…

“Mason…,” he must’ve heard the hesitation in my voice because he turned to look at me. His green eyes were shielded. “Can I ask a favor?”

“You want me to take you back to Earth? But Willow, this is your home?” Mason frowned, his eyebrows furrowed. This was the most emotion he’s shown the past few days.

“I know this is my home. You, Ashe and Delilah, Meeks, you guys are my family. I just,” I paused, looking for the right words. “I need to see where I came from.” Mason studied my face for a moment, obviously worried.

“Alright,” he sighed, “Come on, we better go now.”

“Thank you,” I smiled.

I followed him as he turned and started down the deck. I followed him silently, we passed the crew who looked at their captain with apprehension. I grimaced, they all knew his secret now and I wasn’t sure they were all comfortable with it. We went into his cabin and he opened up a small chest, he pulled the stone-sized luminescent crystal from its velvet bed.

“This is one of the Brilliance crystals. It has enough magic that if we smash it when we are in your world then it will create a portal,” he explained. “Now, it’s your turn to open one up. You have the power, all you have to do is unweave the barrier between the world. Think of where you want and imagine a way there.” I nodded.

I took a few steps back and closed my eyes. Images of my old house popped into my mind. The dull houses around it, the rich family across the street, the way you could see the sunset if you sat in the driveway. My family bustling around in the front yard decorating for Halloween. Then a ripple broke my image and a burst of colors appeared. I opened my eyes, the ripple was before me. It seemed to quiver between Mason and I, I faintly saw him on the other side.

“Step through, I will be right behind you,” he assured. I gave him a look and stepped through. There was a blinding bright light. Blinking quickly my vision cleared, except instead being in Mason’s cabin, I stood in the middle of a road, just in front of a house. A foul odor reached my nose.

“God, where are we? It reeks like dragon cave.” Mason’s voice nearly made me jump out of my skin, I spun to see him wrinkling his nose.

“We’re in front of my house,” I said softly, looking back ahead. The light’s were casting shadows on the darkened lawn. “I don’t remember earth smelling this… bad.”

“This is where you lived? In there?” He pointed, coming to standing next to me. I nodded. Slowly I walked forward to the window. I crouched and peeked in, Mason did the same. My old family sat there watching TV as if nothing had changed. Though my adoptive mother looked a little sad. I carefully I pulled my copy of my favorite book I had grabbed before we came here and left it on the porch. I wanted her to know I was alright.

I stepped away and pulled Mason with me.

“Is that it?” His tone was gentle. I offered him a sad smile.

“Yes, I just had to make sure they were good. I was never happy here, I couldn’t be happy in a dying world. Myriad is my home,” I sighed.

“Then let's go home.” Mason took my hand in his and smashed the crystal. A ripple formed between us. We stepped through and materialized inside his cabin. Home.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
