Forget about Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube for that matter. It seems as if television is really trying to make a comeback, especially with the recently added fall series.
TV Guide released some must-see Fall 2014 TV series that are definitely not ones to miss. Whether you are taking a break from the crazy studying or looking for something to do in your down time, here are some television shows that you are sure to get hooked on.
The first is a show called, “A to Z.” This romantic comedy, featured on NBC, follows the cycle of one specific relationship, from the beginning to end. It most notably features Ben Feldman from Mad Men and Cristin Miliotto, the mother from, “How I Met Your Mother.”
The Affair is a series that is now featured on Showtime. This unique plots alternates perspectives, between males and females, amidst outline the “emotional and psychological effects” of infidelity on two separate marriages (TV Guide.)
Following the trend of TV-based comic book series, the CW most recently adopted, “The Flash.” This, “Arrow” spinoff features the fastest man alive, aka The Flash. This fast man acquired his strengths after an “explosion at the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator” (TV Guide).
Fox followed The CW’s effort with its adaptation of, “Gotham.” By jumping on the bandwagon of the “comic-book craze,” this “noir crime drama” follows different cases along with the back story of a variety of DC Comics’ villains (TV Guide).
Look out MTV viewers, there’s a new scripted teen drama featuring the “exposition of the soapy inner-workings of one of country’s most popular themes parks, revealing the less-than-magical reality of what goes on behind the scenes” (TV Guide). Let me tell you, this is definitely not all fun and games.
One of the shows receiving perhaps the most acclaim and controversy is Shonda Rhimes’, “How to Get Away With Murder,” showing on ABC. This show, recognized as a “legal thriller,” stars Viola Davis as a determined and headstrong law school professor. Outside of class, however, this professor’s students are concocting a murder plot and must come up with a way to carry it through without getting caught.
CBS is also featuring its political show entitled, “Madam Secretary.” This tells the story of a (former CIA agent whose form boss, now the President of the United States, asks her to take on the role of Secretary of State after an accident claims the life of the office’s previous occupant” (TV Guide). Can someone say girl power??
Perhaps one of the more interesting and differentiated shows on television this fall is featured on Fox, titled, “Red Band Society.” The show’s unique setting is based in a children’s hospital ward in a Los Angeles hospital. A child currently in a coma narrates it. Coined a “coming-of-age” show, this tearjerker follows the ups, the downs, and the ultimate relationships formed as these patients face life-changing and threatening illnesses.
Get ready for this one…think of this next show as a somewhat Pygmalion-esque plots meets modern-day, generation Y characters. One of ABC’s newest shows, “Selfie,” is one unlike any other. It takes place in today’s “social media-driven world” (TV Guide). A female, who spends all of her time on social media, faces the brutal fact that she neither has no real friends nor the social skills necessary to form any. She enlists the help of a trustworthy mentor to change her track record.
