I have been working retail since I was able to drive. Retail is great for a lot of reasons, especially if you are good at talking with people. One of my favorite times of the year for retail is Black Friday because it is fast-paced, exciting, and usually a great time to hit sales goals. Although, the main thing that irritates me about the shopping-holiday is how certain customers act.
When I was working for a department store that sold clothing, I had a customer come up to me while I was working on Black Friday and they complained about not having more dressing rooms, and proceeding to yell at me while I was trying to ring up a different customer. This irritated me.
Another story is when I was working at a technology store. At the technology store, a customer came up to me and tried to barter with me on a television that was heavily discounted already, and refused for me to say no without speaking to a manager.
My last story is also from working at the technology store. On Black Friday weekend a customer got mad at me because after 30 hours after the doorbuster, we no longer had the television that was in the doorbuster. These doorbuster advertise a limited supply and usually are sold out by +1 hours after the store opens.
My main idea of this article was never to shame customers, we all have bad days. But just remember, retail associates are people too! We all are trying our best and are being paid to be nice to you and offer you a good experience, so please just be nice to us too :)
