If there is one thing I really miss about my hometown, it is the unique places that they had to eat. Jeffco is an interesting place. If you drive north fifteen minutes, you are in the city. If you drive south fifteen minutes, you are in the complete country. There are plenty of restaurants in Jeffco that you don't even think about how special they are until you leave. Also, if you're planning on driving through Jefferson County anytime soon, make sure you stop that these places.
1. The Dough Depot
The dough depot is a cute little restaurant in the historic town of Kimmswick. There are many things that make this place so great. First of all, it is so historic and cute that it makes for a fun place to take someone on a date or go out to lunch with your friends. It also has really amazing food. It is all extremely affordable and the majority of it is homemade. The best thing to get on a hot summer day is their frozen lemonade-its delicious.
2. SnJ's
This is probably the best sno cone/ice cream place in the world, not only in Jeffco. We have all gotten those snocones that don't have enough favoring in them and we have also gotten those concretes that when we get to the bottom there are no more toppings left-just ice cream. SnJ's is known for not being like that. They pour on the flavoring/toppings and they have hundreds of flavors and combos to try. A few good things on the menu, out of the many that they have, would be a "cardiac arrest" or a "snowball sundae." A cardiac arrest is a concrete that has chocolate that freezes on the concrete, oreos, and cookie dough in it. It is the definition of perfection if someone really loves chocolate. A snowball sundae is a snocone on top of vanilla ice cream.
3. Scottie's Pub
Scottie's is a place where people go if they want to have a night out, but do not want to drive all the way to the city. It has a very good drink menu along with some amazing food. It is also a great place to celebrate your 21st birthday.s
4. Detour's Bar and Grill
Detour's is absolutely amazing and is the place most people go after they finish a game at Seckman. It has some of the best food and the friendliest waiters and waitresses you will ever meet. Their fries and buffalo chicken salad are to die for, but anything on the menu is honestly good.
5. The Blue Owl
The Blue Owl is another restaurant in Kimmswick, that is probably a little more famous than The Dough Depot. It is known for all of the homemade foods that it serves. One of the best things about The Blue Owl, though, are their amazing desserts. Everything that made in this cute little restaurant is so unique and old fashioned. The quality of the desserts they make is extremely hard to beat.
6. La Pachanga
There are tons of La Pachangas all over the place, but the one in Arnold is special. It is pretty much the only Mexican restaurant in the Imperial/Lower Arnold area, so everyone goes here when they want some chips and queso or a margarita. It is a great place to bond with friends, and is normally my restaurant of choice when I go back home.
7. Holtie's Bar and Grill
If you have never had breakfast at Holtie's I feel extremely bad for you. They have great food, but their breakfast is unreal. It is a little place, right off the highway in Barnhart, but it has more of an edgy feel than most places do in Jeffco.
8. Ginny's Kitchen and Custards
Ginny's is the place where all CYC kids go after their games are done. If you every played any game at St. Joseph fields in Barnhart, you know what I'm talking about. Every victory would always end up in a celebration at Ginny's. Why? Because they have the best ice cream ever.
9. That'sa Nice'a Pizza
That'sa Nice'a Pizza may be the most high quality thin crust pizza I have ever had in my life. It is made just like other normal thin crust pizzas, but they have this weird sauce on it that will make you never want to try another pizza place ever again. Although it is a little expensive, it is incredibly worth it.
