The fourth review is here! If you haven't checked out my reviews for books one, two, and three in this series, you definitely should. And like I always say, if you haven't read the series or don't want to be spoiled, you should probably turn around and go fix that problem.
I have to say, this has been my favorite one to reread out of the four so far. Although, don't ask me what my favorite book in the series is because I don't know.
But seriously, there are so many more details as the series expands. So much more backstory to each character. AND so much more Hagrid! Which is just as great. We really do learn a lot more about Hagrid, where he came from, and growing up as a half-giant. I loved that Dumbledore gave him the opportunity to teach the Care of Magical Creatures class. Hagrid cares so much about Harry, Ron, and Hermione's well being you can't help but to add him to the list of favorite characters.
"'Yeh know wha', Harry?' he said, looking up from the photograph of his father, his eyes very bright, 'When I firs' met you, you reminded me o' me a bit. Mum an' Dad gone, an' you was feelin' like yeh wouldn' fit in at Hogwarts, remember? Not sure yeh were really up to it... an' now look at yeh, Harry! School Champion!”'
Starting off, this is the installment where Harry Potter is chosen to compete in the Triwizard Tournament (involuntarily).
"'It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year.'
'You're JOKING!' said Fred Wealsey loudly.
'I am not joking, Mr. Weasley,' he said, 'though now that you mention it, I did hear an excellent one over the summer about a troll, a hag, and a leprechaun who all go into a bar...'
Professor McGonagall cleared her throat loudly.
Dumbledore is the lord of all dad jokes.
Carrying on-- this tournament took place at Hogwarts throughout the course of the year. With the participating schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
There were three grueling tasks that the four competitors (two from Hogwarts, again involuntary) had to complete, and ultimately the "champion" with the most points awarded to them wins! In the first task, the champions had to get past a specific dragon to get to a golden egg.
The second task was in the lake, so everyone had to find a way to breathe underwater and rescue someone close to them before the hour was up. And in the third task, each competitor had to go through a maze to find the Triwizard Cup (which really ended up being a portkey going straight to Voldemort, oh the irony).
Since all of these tasks were so inventive, I really wonder what the other tournament tasks consisted of in other years. Races? Giants? More magical creatures? I could read a whole other book on different characters competing in this tournament in different years just because it is so fascinating to me, it's basically an epic scavenger hunt in a magical world. Sign me up! Not really though, I don't think I would make it past the first task.

Speaking of the tournament, I quickly noticed in this reread how much help Harry Potter received throughout the entire thing. He could not have won, or gotten very far in the tournament, without all the help that he received. I'll break it down. Hagrid told Harry about the dragons in the first task. Robert Pattinson (sorry, I mean Cedric) gave Harry a clue about how to open the egg that revealed the second task. Myrtle also points out that Harry should put the egg underwater to hear the message within it. AND Dobby made Harry something to eat that would allow him to breathe underwater. And for the third task, Hermione and Ron helped Harry learn as any charms as he could learn before they had to compete. So, really, Harry would have been screwed without his friends.
Aren't these gifs just the cutest? So much happens in the last 100 pages it's hard to wrap your mind around it all. The Dark Lord returns (DUN DUN DUNNNN), Cedric is murdered, Harry and Voldemort have a duel, we find out their wands are brothers (what?!!), Moody is an impostor, Barty Crouch killed his father! SO MUCH happens! And can I just say some of my favorite scenes from this book are from Voldemort, I really hate him but, man, is he a cool villain.
"'But I am not a man, Muggle,' said the cold voice, barely audible now over the crackling of the flame. 'I am much, much more than a man.'"
"The thin man stepped out of the cauldron, staring at Harry... and Harry stared back into the face that had haunted his nightmares for three years. Whiter than a skull, with wide livid scarlet eyes and a nose that was flat as a snake's with slits for nostrils... Lord Voldemort had risen again."
That last quote gives me chills.... look out for my next review on the fifth book, there will be many more creepy Voldemort quotes to come!
