Scott Weiland was the troubled lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. His musical career was been plagued with many incidents that involved hard drugs and alcohol. These problems led to Scott exiting both Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. On the night of Dec. 4, 2015, Scott was found dead on his tour bus where cocaine provided by bassist Thomas Delton Black was found.
Weiland's onstage persona has been described as flamboyant and chaotic. He often used a megaphone for vocal effect and was constantly changing his vocal style.
Weiland wrote on his 2011 memoir about his time with Stone Temple Pilots saying that, “We were written off as the band of disastrous dysfunction with too many personal problems to survive," in his memoir "Not Dead & Not For Sale.” “Or rather, I was written off as the guy whose hopeless addictions had — and would always — ruin everything for everyone,” he said.
Weiland's drug issues have always been an issue with the bands that he's been a part of. He was one of the reasons as to why STP broke up in 2002 and his relationship with Slash in Velvet Revolver was never a good one.
In 2003, Weiland gave what was later pegged as his most revealing interview, called "The Devil Gives You the First Time for Free." In this interview he explained that, "This is my life, a cautionary tale. Maybe somebody can learn from it."
I will share with you some of Scott's Weiland's music to remember just how important his music was not only to the industry but to many of his fans. Rest in peace, Scott.
"Plush" was inspired mainly by the band's love of ragtime music and the lyrics are based on a failed relationship. Plush went on to become the biggest rock song of the '90s and many still sample it today.
Here is an amazing performance by Scott and the Doors in 2000.
Scott, along with Slash and three more members of Guns 'N Roses formed Velvet Revolver and the band quickly became a huge success.
Scott was amazingly talented and even though his life was cut short and was filled with troublesome times, he will always be one of rock's best voices.
