Halloween is finally over, and all of the October festivities of pumpkin patch trips, costume brainstorming, and haunted corn mazes are behind us. And now it's officially Christmas season, right? Wrong.
Remember that holiday that brings families and friends together to watch football, enjoy incredible food, and celebrate our gratitude for each other and all of the little gifts we have been given throughout our lives? In case you forgot, that holiday is Thanksgiving.
It seems as though so many of us, including all of the grocery and home stores, dismiss Thanksgiving and jump straight into the all-time favorited Christmas season. Decorations are going up, and Christmas music is being played. And, yes, Christmas could absolutely (in my opinion) be truthfully dubbed as the most wonderful time of year. However, that being said, it is so important to give Thanksgiving the acknowledgement that it needs.
Take the November days before Black Friday to heavily express your gratitude for the little things that keep you going. Be thankful for the friend who always listens to 45 minutes of your problems. Be thankful for waking up to a little bit of sunshine. Be thankful for the technology that allows you to catch up with your relatives that live states away. Be thankful for the strangers who spread a little kindness when they smile as you pass them on the streets.
So before your mind skips straight to the Christmas season, take the time to embrace these November days of gratitude. Whether it's something as big as your closest friends or something as small as remembering your planner when you leave for class, just be thankful.
