Last year around this time, I came across a video by Francis Chan. In the video, he was giving a sermon. It wasn't like other sermons with a preacher holding a Bible. Instead, Francis Chan was holding a long white rope that went off the stage.
This rope, as Chan explains, represents eternity. It goes on forever. On the rope, there is a small (maybe 2 inches) red section. The red part represents our life here on earth.
The rope put life into perspective. Our life here on earth is so small compared to all eternity. And why do we need to realize that? Because we worry way too often about things in this life.
With assignments piling up this week and finals right around the corner, our minds are consumed by stress. We feel like we are running out of time when we have all of eternity. All this stress, all these assignments, and all these tests are simply a very small moment in all of eternity.
When I first saw this sermon, I was overwhelmed with assignments. I was stressing over the projected grades I might get. I had to keep reminding myself how those things did not matter. Looking back at it now, those assignments and grades never cross my mind. I got them done, turned them in, and never thought about it again. Not only have I heard Francis Chan's sermon, but I have experienced it.
God calls us to not be anxious. He tells us to cast those anxieties on him. He is willing to take our burdens. We don't need to let these daily worries become more of a weight than it actually is. The things that we are struggling with are only temporary. Take a moment to be still in the Lord's presance, and allow Him to take your burdens.
Simply remember the rope.
