If anyone knows me or has followed my Odyssey journey this past year, they'll know my very first article was titled “A Female Perspective On Donald Trump.” In this piece, I discussed all the reasons why I would not support Trump in his bid for president.
However, times have changed and the Republican candidates have dwindled down to just one… Donald J. Trump.
My views on his character have not been altered, nor have I been convinced he is all that he makes himself out to be. But unless some other Republican candidate rises to snatch the nomination, I will indeed be casting my ballot for Trump on Election Day.
Here's four reasons why I'll be voting confidently for Donald Trump:
1. The importance of securing Republican Supreme Court justices.
Within the next president's term, there is one guaranteed opening among the justices and a few more likely to come. One way or another, the court is going to lean towards a certain party affiliation, and I'd prefer it to be Republican. This is especially important right now, seeing as though Hillary promises to put in SCOTUS nominees who support the Roe v. Wade decision as 'settled law' rather than being willing to revisit it. Cases like these are important and, just like anyone else, I want people who represent my voice to be the ones deciding on it.
2. Abstaining from the vote would lead to a Democratic win.
... And a Democratic win would lead to increased abortion rights, the same messy welfare system, and (most likely) a not-yet-convicted criminal and potential liar in office. Sure, I don’t agree with Trump on all fronts. And no, I don’t believe that you should vote along party lines just for the sake of party loyalty. But I do feel strongly against what the Democrats vow to bring to the table if voted into the White House, and I’d like to do what I can to stop it.
3. He’s supported by people that I trust.
The president of Liberty University, Jerry Falwell, Jr., openly supported Trump in front of both my school and the nation. Former candidate Dr. Ben Carson gave him his endorsement after dropping out of the race. Christian family man Willie Robertson supported him from the start. These are people who know the word of God and will not be swayed simply by rhetoric. If they support Trump as the best option, then I’m okay entrusting him with my vote. I don't normally believe in falling into the trap of celebrity endorsements, but knowing that someone with my same beliefs supports Trump does give me comfort.
4. We really do need a change.
If there’s one major thing that I can say I like about Trump, it's that he’s got beliefs and he does what he can to make them a reality. There will not be any bulldozing or buying-out of Mr. Trump. His policies are far different than those that have been implemented in the White House over the last four years. He's in favor of things like energy independence, bringing jobs back to America, and restoring strong relations with Israel. As evidenced by his life, he believes in businesses and working hard - something that has not been stressed in the past eight years of our welfare state. Values are shifting and times will change in DC.
I will say this again and again - Trump was not my first choice. I believe strongly in speaking truth with grace - something Trump is greatly lacking in. But when it comes down to it, I know Trump is the best of who remains.
I will not remain silent and withhold my vote.
I will take action and do what I believe is best for my country.
I will not stand aside and hand my vote to someone who will not do my voice justice.
I will vote for Donald Trump and I urge any and every Republican to join me. Division in the party will only bring harm upon our cause. It is through unity that we will find success and... dare I say it... make America great again.
