The 8 Phases Of Rediscovering Your Harry Potter Addiction

Harry Potter is god. Harry Potter is life. No one is denying that—but sometimes you can't be throwing all of your energy into the Harry Potter world.

Your life gets busy, things get hectic, and Harry Potter inadvertently takes a seat on the sidelines. It gets benched. But then these magic moments (pun absolutely 100% completely intended) come along, and you remember your long lost love. And then you can't imagine how you could have put it aside for a minute. And you're back in full-on nerd mode, reveling in the glory of Harry Potter. Bow down.

1. When you see a Harry Potter book around... Or ABC is having a Harry Potter weekend... Or you hear someone mention Harry Potter... Or literally any other way for it to re-enter your life.

Is that what I think it is? Could it be? Say it isn't so! BUT IT IS. IT IS HARRY POTTER. PRAISE THE POTTERGODS. PRAAAIIIISSEE 🙏🙏🙏🙏

2. You try to think about why you let it leave your life.

Literally a crime against all Potter-kind. But in all seriousness, Harry Potter helped you so much as a kid. From it being a long series that you read all by yourself (!!) to it being an escape from your life to being a source of comfort, even well past the "appropriate" age to read these books.

3. Screw trying to understand it. Just appreciate it.

It's beauty. It's grace. It's your childhood staring back at your face. You haven't even started reading it or watching it or really doing anything. Just the idea is a bit overwhelming to think about. It's Harry-freaking-Potter. This isn't some assigned reading from school. This is the holy grail.

4. You start to read it or watch it again—and oh my god, this is taking you to another place.

There it is, in all of its beauty. You're like long lost sisters or friends seeing each other on the first day of school. Utter joy. Inexplicable happiness. Yes, that might be a tear in your eye. And who cares—Harry Potter is back in your life!

5. When you rediscover the brilliance of J. K. Rowling.

Literally, SHE'S A GENIUS. There are so many threads that she connected throughout the books, trails from the first book that can be connected all the way through to the seventh book. Every time you reread a book or the entire series, you can rediscover things you missed the previous time—because Rowling was a bloody genius.

6. When you start thinking about character theories and plot twists, holes, turns and curves.

There is so much here. Seven books worth of things to pick apart and talk about. More than 3,400 pages to dissect. More than 19 hours of movies to watch. Should those characters have died (honestly this isn't even a spoiler anymore if you didn't figure out or hear that some people died by this point then you're reaaally behind)? Should these two characters have ended up together? Why did this happen, if this one line in the third book said that? Literally, put any two Potterheads together and they could talk for hours...days...weeks....

7. When someone has the audacity to question why you're still reading or watching it.

"Aren't you too old for this?" UM NO. EXCUSE ME. HOW DARE YOU. THIS IS INSULTING. SHUSH, YOU SWINE. This is Harry Potter, your first love—and a love lasts a lifetime. Any person who insinuates otherwise should be dropped like a hot potato and put in potato purgatory.

8. And you vow to never break up with Harry Potter ever again.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I promise this won't happen again. Harry Potter is too great to lose ever again. I'll bring the books everywhere I go and quote them in every situation I can and nerd out with any Potterhead I meet and dissect them and love them and cherish them until death do us part. I'll never let you go.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
