On the night of Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, the Oscars premiered on ABC. It was a night filled with surprises, smiling faces, and laughter. The night began on the red carpet with celebrities pooling in one after another. Kerry Washington came in wearing a fabulous black and white dress, Leonardo DiCaprio bought his mother as his date, and Chris Rock made jokes that very much made the crowd laugh in tears. Rock begins the night on the controversy on how not a single black actor or actress had been nominated for an Academy Award. "I'm here at the Oscars, otherwise known as the White People's Choice Awards,” Rock begins his monologue, “If they nominated hosts, I wouldn't even be here right now. Y'all would be watching Neil Patrick Harris." He continues to say that people told him to quit and not be the host of The Oscars, his response, “How come it's only unemployed people who tells you to quit...the last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart.”
Joke after joke, Rock didn’t disappoint. But what really made the night was who won. Below are the winners of the special night in Hollywood.

Congratulations to all of the winners, and especially to Leonardo DiCaprio for winning the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Roll! Besides DiCaprio winning an Oscar, what also made the night is when Chris Rock bought out his children and asked everyone to help them raise money for Girl Scouts. They bought boxes of Girl Scout cookies and over $65,000 had been raised that night for them. Sam Smith came out to perform that night as well, looking almost unrecognizable after losing so much weight. There were a lot of memorable performances that night, especially Lady Gaga’s performance.
