Reasons Why You Should Go To New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con (NYCC for short), one of the biggest conventions of the year, aside from San Diego Comic Con. If not known, once a year thousands of people affiliated with nerd-core culture come along and celebrate all things associated with that culture. This ranges from video-games, comics, movies and shows. Every October, the Jacob Javits Center would host this event and open up to thousands of fans. Being into the nerd-core culture myself, I usually attend this event yearly and explore my inner nerd and geek out over everything as I go on an amazing journey to the convention. However, what makes it so great? Why should you go? Here are some pretty cool reasons why you or anyone should go to New York Comic Con:

Celebrity Appearances:

Oh man, who doesn’t like meeting celebrities?! During NYCC, many celebrities come on down and embrace their titled roles or even get in on the fun and walk around the Kingdom that is the Javits center. Many celebrities make appearances through their autographing showcases, the artist alleys and even the event panels, you’re bound to see a celebrity you love! However, when attending the event, if you see an actor on the autographing list, always plan your line time. Line time? Every actor or celebrity will always have a huge line for autographs and photos with their fans and these lines are HUGE. They can range from 15 minutes to almost an hour or two just to see them (I’m talking about you two, Tara Strong and Kevin Conroy!) Or if you're lucky enough like I was, you could probably see a celebrity or two at the artist alley selling their books or merchandise and would be able to give you an autograph or take a selfie!

Screenings:

If not known, NYCC is filled with many event line ups and tons of reveals and screenings. For example, here are some the revealed content of the event:

  • "Hey Arnold: The Jungle" movie had it’s release date reveal and trailer screening!
  • "Shadowhunters" had their newest season promo revealed!
  • "Steven Universe" had a first look at the series’ newest season!
  • "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" had its release trailer included with tidbits and details.
  • "Peter Capaldi" (the 12th Doctor from Doctor Who) announced his retirement as the Doctor.

And many more reveals where made. Screenings are great when it comes to NYCC, fans of such franchises get to sit throughout these reveals and event and see the actors themselves come out and reveal their experiences in their roles and even answer fan questions! Why would anyone want to turn that down?

Merchandise & Cosplayers:

While walking through the Javits Center, you’re prone to probably walking through the huge merchandising venue and seeing tons of amazing things you’d like. From swords and shirts to even cosplayers! The merchandising venue is one of the best parts of NYCC, as you walk throughout the crowded area buying items ranging from Keyblades and Master Swords, to comic books and hoodies, the possibilities are endless. While on the journey to buying your inner nerd memorabilia, you’ll be able to see cosplayers of all things and you could always take a photo of them (unless they do say no). Not only would you feel happy for snapping a photo but it also makes them feel great for being recognized! Most of the time, cosplayers are usually humble and wouldn’t mind having a picture taken of them, and most of the time they would want someone to recognize their character and take a photo of them! So go out there and take plenty of photos.

In the end New York Comic Con is a great event to attend and I recommend everyone to go out there and enjoy it. Why? BECAUSE THIS CONVENTION IS AMAZING! Many big reveals and announcements were/are made and the cosplayers are always absolutely fantastic! Throughout the event many celebrities attend the artist alleys and autograph booths, and it’s always great to treat yourself and embrace the nerd in you! So grab that portal gun and light saber and go nerd out! I guarantee you’ll have a great time.

Check out these great cosplay photos I've taken from the event!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
