Po-ta-to. noun; a starchy plant tuber that is one of the most important food crops, cooked and eaten as a vegetable.
The key word here is important.Potatoes are pretty freaking amazing. They can transform and present themselves in many different varieties, something unique and magical. Yes, potatoes are magical, and if you read this list, I'm sure you will agree.
1. Baked Potatoes
In my opinion, baked potatoes are a little slice of heaven. You can top them with butter, cheese, bacon and an excess amount of salt -- all of my favorite things combined (and probably yours, too).
2.Curly Fries
Freaking curly fries. I think this goes without explaining. These beauties are so darn good, they don't even need ketchup.
3. Mashed Potatoes
Basic, but still delicious -- especially with gravy. Can I get an amen, ya'll?
4. Waffle Fries
Is is just me, or do waffle fries taste extra delicious because of their extra unique appearance?
5. Roasted Potatoes
You can literally season them any way you desire, and that, my friend, is a wonderful thing. Pop them in the oven, and flavors fuse together wonderfully.
6. Fries (again)
Fries are just life, okay? Therefore, they deserve three spots on the list. Fries aren't just fries. They all taste a little bit different. It's like magic.
7. Tater Tots
The perfect example of a crispy outer crust and a just-the-right-amount soft center. I'm getting hungry just looking at these.
8. Potato Soup
Because if you're actually going to voluntarily eat soup, this is the only way to go. It appears that cheese and bacon go well with potatoes, no matter the form they come in.
9. Scalloped Potatoes
Not my favorite, but just another example of the many wonders of potatoes.
10. Hash Browns
Because this is the best part about breakfast, hands down -- smothered and covered especially.
11. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a blessing. Because of the sweet potato, we could actually make a whole separate list: baked sweet potato, sweet potato fries... you get the picture. We get double the variety, and for that, I want to thank the sweet potato.
12. Potato Salad
Because what would the South be without Grandma's potato salad, especially on Easter?
13. Potato Chips
I mean, they're potato chips. Can you imagine your life without potato chips? Yeah, I didn't think so.
14. Potato Skins
Potato skins are basically a cousin to the baked potato. The only real difference is that you typically eat the skin (obviously) on potato skins, and less of the inner portion. These are actually a good source of vitamins and nutrients.
There you have it -- 14 reasons why potatoes are the best. I think we can all agree. Here's to you, potato.
