I don't want to say that I'm a people hater, but I'm definitely not a people person. I am however a huge animal person, especially dogs. I can name thousands of reasons why I like my dog more than people, but here is a list of a few of my favorite reasons. Disclaimer: My dog is a 3-year-old, 10 pound, blonde dachshund/Pomeranian. Not all dogs may be as awesome as mine.

1. My dog never judges me

Whether I am eating my second tub of ice cream or crying watching the notebook, my dog always stays by my side and never passes judgement.

2. My dog is faithful, usually

The best thing about having a dog is it loves you and only you. Well, usually. Unless your mom comes around with peanut butter. I'm my dog's favorite person, favorite lap to sit on and favorite face to lick.

3. I've never seen anyone happier to see me than my dog when I get home

By the reaction my dog has when I open the front door, you would think I had been gone for years. In reality, I was gone for less than an hour and my dog is acting like I'm the shiny big present under the Christmas tree and she just unwrapped me. She is so happy to see me that she runs straight into a door with her face because she was jumping sideways staring at me walking in.

4. My dog always knows exactly what to say, and she can't even speak to me

Every time that ii've cried and no words can console me, my dog always knows what to say. She comes over and licks my hand or the tears right off my face. Then she does some crazy little dog dance to make me laugh and know she's there for me.

5. My dog can rock any outfit

Whether it's two bows, a tutu or a football jersey my dog can rock it. Just about any sort of clothes on a dog is enough to melt my heart. No matter how much she hates the outfit I make my dog wear she rocks it like she's walking the VS Angel runway.

6. The best gift receivers

I could give my dog a tennis ball, an old sock or a stuffed animal and you would think I had just bought her the newest, coolest, most expensive present. My dog becomes so obsessed with toys she brings them to bed, on walks and to eat her dinner. Any toy is the best gift she's ever gotten.

7. They don't lie

My dog has never lied to me. I can always tell if she ripped up the newspaper, ate my sandwich off the counter or had an accident on the floor. I ask her and I immediately know if it was her or not.

8. They are relatable

What I mean is they bring people together. Everyone likes dogs, especially a cute little one. Dogs have a way of attracting good souls to one another. I have had great conversations with people and my dog served as the ice breaker. Dog parks are great places to meet good people.

9. Dogs are great at evaluating a person's character

My dog has always had a great ability to see a person for what they really are. She is always sure to tell me if a person is good or not. It's always a deal breaker if my dog doesn't like you because she likes everyone.

10. Dogs make the best friend

You're never alone when you're with your dog. You always have a drinking buddy, an eating buddy, a napping buddy and a study buddy. You name the activity and I'm sure your dog can join you. My dog will do anything with me. She always loves me. She cheers me up. She gives me space. She always makes me laugh... and lastly, I swear her cuteness level could cure a disease.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
