I am a feminist. I do not hate men nor do I sacrifice my bras by setting them on fire. The word feminist has acquired a negative connotation when the definition is really quite simple:

So here is a list of some of the reasons why I am a feminist:

1. Because my organs should not determine my level of success.

2. Because the most common question a woman is asked after getting sexually assaulted is, "What were you wearing?"

3. Because girls should not be embarrassed or made fun of for getting their period.

4. Because actual feminism isn’t about hating men.

5. Because gender inequality affects all genders.

6. Because princesses can rescue people too.

7. Because ⅔ of the 781 million illiterate adults in the world are women.

8. Because saying, “I have a boyfriend,” is the only thing that stops a person from hitting on you because they respect another man more than your lack of interest or right to rejection.

9. Because “like a girl” is used as an insult, is equated with weakness, and that being a girl is something to be ashamed of.

10. Because cat-calling is not a compliment.

11. Because women and girls make up 98 percent of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

12. Because length of clothing is not an invitation.

13. Because men should not feel like they can’t show emotions.

14. Because being a caring parent is not gender specific.

15. Because being a human means having both masculine and feminine qualities.

16. Because two-dimensional labels should not be used to describe complex human beings.

17. Because beauty standards for both men and women are absolutely ridiculous.

18. Because women don’t have control over their own bodies.

19. Because women should be able to breastfeed their hungry child regardless of location.

20. Because women still make less money than men do for doing the same job.

21. Because we live in a society that teaches women to be careful not to get raped rather than teaching people not to rape.

22. Because women’s bodies should not be a constant subject for discussion, objectification and disrespect.

23. Because sexual consent is not taken seriously.

24. Because men are not given custody of children for being seen as unfit to be a caretaker.

25. Because as a woman, walking alone at night is absolutely terrifying.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
