We’ve all seen those videos from Buzzfeed about cats, whether it’s giant men meeting tiny kittens, cats knocking things off of tables or the age-old debate of cat people versus dog people. Cats have become more than a household pet. They’ve become the ultimate internet meme. Sure, dog and puppy videos are cute, but you’re more likely to see people laughing at funny cat videos. Why? Because we relate to them. We’re basically giant, hairless cats with opposable thumbs.
I know the dog people reading things are thinking, “I’m nothing like a cat. Cats are awful. I’m definitely more of a dog.” Well, dog person, I’m here to prove you wrong.
Cats spend two-thirds of their lives sleeping. As humans, we only need an average of eight hours of sleep per night, but college is rough and those eight hours turn into five hours at night, one hour at noon and a couple 30-minute naps between (or during) class. Even though we don’t get 16 hours of sleep per day, sometimes to other people, it looks like it.
Maybe this is just me, but I shed like a cat. My friends, boyfriend and brother have all found hair on blankets, in textbooks, in shoes… no one knows how they got there, but no one knows how the cat figured out where I keep all of my black clothes either.
Cats love cuddling, especially when you’re busy doing something important. They need affection more than they need attention. They’ll sit on your keyboard when you’re at the computer, meow at you until you feed them or paw at your legs until you pick them up and hold them. I’d like to apologize to my boyfriend for doing all of those.
If you’re going out for a day, all you need to do is leave a bowl of food, a bowl of water and a toy mouse and your cat will be fine. All I need is a can of spaghetti-o’s, a bottle of water and a book and I’ll be entertained for hours.
I’ll be brief with this one: we both know where to use the bathroom.
Cats have this odd tendency of knocking things over. Whether it’s other cats, small humans or inanimate objects, something is ending up on the floor. Most of the time I don’t mean to knock things over. It just sort of happens. But sometimes, it just feels right.
Some cats meow all the time while others hardly ever meow. Some people talk all the time while others only give their input once in a blue moon.
Kittens tend to be more energetic than their older cat counterparts. In terms of my family, I tend to have more energy than my mom and grandma, even considering my unconventional sleeping patterns.
Dogs are great, don't get me wrong, but we’re basically cats. The best part is, there’s nothing wrong with that! Sometimes it takes the right kind of person to really love a cat, but once you get to know them, they’re not so bad. And you know what? You’re pretty great too.
