Six Reasons You Need To Watch "Orange is the New Black"

I could go on and on about how "Orange is the New Black" is an addictive show, so I've narrowed it down to six reasons.

Six Reasons You Need To Watch "Orange is the New Black"

Have you ever watched a show longer than you had expected to and then hours later you realize you've finished the whole season? I can tell you that I may or may not have done that today. The show that I'm talking about is a Netflix original "Orange is the New Black." Here are six reasons that you should watch (or should I say binge watch?) "Orange is the New Black."

1. It's pretty entertaining.

I don't know if I could find one person that can sit there and say they weren't on the edge of their seats most of an episode. With every new scene, there is a new mess that has happened and only one mess has been solved in the last hour. I guess not everyone's idea of entertaining involves prison, drugs, sex, etc. but it is definitely a semi-entertaining show.

2. You learn about all of the messed up things that go on behind bars.

I'm not here to say that every prison is the worst and I am definitely not trying to spark up a debate about our tax dollars going to criminals, but they are still humans. The point of this show is to exaggerate and entertain, and for it to be a show about prison, you have to show the bad side of being behind bars. Humans, no matter how bad they are do not deserve to eat slop for every meal and wear the most uncomfortable clothes for who knows how long, and that is not the worst of it all.

3. It's better when you stick together.

Especially with the fifth season among us (I haven't watched it all yet), the girls seem to come together once they realize they need to. With that many people in one building, they tend to separate themselves based off of their ethnicity and beliefs. Even though they stay with their clicks, they know how to come together as groups and then altogether.

4. You learn the back stories behind the inmates lives and even a few of the officers.

With just about every episode comes a new story of a much younger version of a new character going through the struggles of life. Whether it is their upbringing or what they bring onto themselves, things eventually go wrong. Sometimes we see that deep down they really aren't that bad, but other times it goes to show just how twisted some of the inmates are. With each and every backstory comes a role of how they play into the prisons society. When locked in Litchfield, you can't really hide anywhere.

5. Relationships are key when it comes to survival.

Sure, romantic relationships play a big part in this shows plot. Whether it's past relationships, significant others coming to visit, relationships between inmates, or a relationship between a guard and an inmate, it plays a big part. It's not just the romantic relationships that are a part of the show, but the relationship between best friends and enemies and family, blood related or not. This is how most of the girls manage to survive and make it through, knowing they have people right there by their sides to help them.

6. It leaves you with so many cliffhangers.

Honestly this is my favorite part. It just makes me wonder, how can a single show make me want more so much? After a while you begin to forget about all of the nagging questions you had been left with after finishing that episode or that season. Then all of the sudden you're standing in front of a Christmas nativity getting flashbacks to the cliffhanger from season one.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
