" The Office" is my favorite show in the entire universe, as I’ve watched the series five times (and counting). It truly doesn’t get old and it’s genuinely funny. With "Parks and Recreation", I felt like NBC was trying too hard to recreate their one true shining star, "The Office". Now, while I love me some Chris Pratt and Amy Poehler; "The Office" will always be superior, sorry. #notsorry
1. Michael Gary Scott
My favorite person in the entire universe. His charm is irreplaceable. Leslie Knope was created to be another Michael Scott. Please don't mess with perfection, and don't try to duplicate it.2. Jim and Pam
Um, hi. Relationship goals... everything I aspire to be... I love you, Jim Halpert. Andy and April? Don’t even look at me.
3. On-screen chemistry
THIS CAST IS SO PERFECTLY CAST IT'S LIKE THEY WERE MADE FOR THIS SERIES.4. Dwight K. Schrute
Truly the world’s biggest weirdo, but hands down one of the best characters on the show. Unlike any character on TV, ever. P.S.: Schrute farms.
5. Primetime Emmy Awards
"The Office" has been nominated forty-two times and has taken home five awards. "Parks & Recreation" has been nominated fourteen times, and has taken zero home. Boom, roasted.6. U.S. viewers
"Parks" averaged about 5 million views per season, whereas "The Office" averaged around 7.5 million views. Sometimes, bigger is better. P.S.: That's what she said.
7. Mockumentary
Dunder Mifflin employees know they’re being filmed for a television show starring a general office. Parks & Rec…? Never explained. Gtg.
8. Seasons
"The Office" ran for nine seasons. "Parks"? Seven.
9. Devotion to the show
Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, and Paul Lieberstein loved this show so much that they directed, produced and wrote the majority of the episodes in the series. Other cast members like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Brian Baumgartner, Rainn Wilson, and Ed Helms also directed and produced a few episodes.10. The ultimate sweetheart
Pamela Beesly. The warm-hearted artist. Her smile could light up a room, not to mention she was the prettiest girl in the office. Ann Perkins who? Not to mention Rashida Jones also played Karen Filippelli on "The Office", who was undoubtedly terrible due to her getting in the middle of J & P. Ugh. Moving on.
11. Character development
"The Office" goes into thorough such detail into the lives of secondary characters at a slower rate so the audience really feels like they know each character, such as Angela, Oscar, and Erin. RIP Sprinkles.12. No abandonment of characters
While Steve Carell did exit the show after season 7, at least we had a surrounding reason. Michael Scott was engaged to Holly Flax and they moved to Colorado. Meanwhile, in "Parks", Mark Brendanawicz was never seen after Season 2 with no further explanation. Tsk Tsk.
13. Humor
I feel like "Parks" ends up using the same humor all the time whereas "The Office" has more of a dry, realistic, genuine humor.
14. Realistic work environment
"The Office" shows the realistic side of work, you’re going to be annoyed with your coworkers, friends with some of them, and talk to everyone. "Parks" just makes it seem like everyone loves each other and they’re all friends. I mean, I guess it depends on the person? Let’s be real, do we love every single person we work with? No.
15. The funniest idiot
Kevin Malone > Andy Dwyer. If this category was based on looks, then Chris Pratt FTW. But, personality > looks. Cmon, who doesn't remember Kevin's famous chili?
While "The Office" and "Parks & Recreation" are two of NBC's biggest shows to date, and very similar to most people, one will always hold a special place in my heart. Here's to "The Office". Thanks for putting on a show no one will ever forget. Most importantly, thanks for all the laughs, tears, and everything in between.
