8 Reasons I'm The Girl Who Loves, But Also Hates, Getting Ready

The older and more makeup I got into, the longer it would take for me to get ready.

Growing up in a Ghanaian family, there were so many birthday parties, baby showers, funerals, weddings and other life events to go to. Depending on the event, I would figure out what to wear and how long it would take to get ready. The older and more into makeup I got, the longer it would take me.

1. I love getting ready because I'm able to dress up.

Dressing up for an event is always something nice that I love doing. Whether it's wearing a fancy dress, a stylish jumpsuit or dressing up a casual outfit. Feeling beautiful in my outfits can be and feel very empowering.

2. I hate getting ready because sometimes I don't want to put in the time.

Sometimes I just want to leave the house without makeup on, looking like the bum I feel like that day. Sometimes you just need a day of sweats, messy buns and zero makeup.

3. I love getting ready because of the unlimited makeup looks I can create to match any outfit.

I love being able to experiment with different eye looks, depending on my style and how I'm feeling that day.

4. I hate getting ready because it takes me over an hour to just do my makeup.

Why does it even take that long? Why are there so many things to put on my face? I've seen makeup tutorials be condensed so that they're around 30 minutes long, so I know it's not just me taking that long. But I'm also a perfectionist when I do makeup, so then again, it could just be me.

5. I love getting ready because, after many days in a row of not wearing makeup and not dressing up, it makes me happy to put effort into presenting myself.

You go girl for not being lazy today!

6. I hate getting ready on days when it's raining.

I wear glasses so it's hard enough to keep makeup on my face. When it's raining, my face eventually looks like I've been sitting in a dark room crying my eyes out for hours.

7. I also hate when my makeup gets all over my clothes.

I can never do my makeup without it creating a stain on my clothing. This is why I stick to dark clothes, even in the summer. I can wash my hands of makeup products and still get my clothes dirty. The makeup never wants to leave my hands. Ugh.

8. Lastly, I just love getting ready for myself.

I love being able to put on makeup and a nice dress, with a stylish pair of shoes and take a picture and believe that I'm beautiful, especially after those no makeup days. Sometimes you just want to impress yourself for yourself and not for anyone else.

Getting ready can either be super fun or a hassle or both honestly. I don't know if it's as hard for men but I can tell you, women don't just go and buy $50 makeup to impress other people. Though, at times, getting ready can be stressful, it can be super empowering and exhilarating to set aside the time to look and feel beautiful. Don't let anyone steal that shine away from you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
