When I picked up my dog on March 14, 2009, from a Pennsylvania Amish family, I knew I would be gaining more than a pet Schnoodle. Oliver Fenway (my brother is a big Sox fan) was my new best friend. At the impressionable age of 11, my family and I had moved to a new town; a town that was 4 times the size and nowhere near as welcoming as my old town. But having my sweet puppy to come home to at the end of a tortuous school day felt like my own therapy. Here’s why your dog is the best form of therapy.
1. He’s the best listener
Besides the fact that my dog will sit for hours and listen to me cry of joy, happiness, or anger... he doesn't tell a soul.
2. He knows when I’m upset
Dogs must have a sixth sense because my puppy knows when an emotional waterfall is about to commence... especially around the same time every month.
3. He gives me unlimited kisses
There's never an end to how much love a puppy can give.
4. He knows how to make me laugh
Whether it's running around like a crazy dog or doing a fun little trick, my dog always knows how to put a smile on my face.
5. He gets me active
This dog knows how to get my endorphins pumping. Running around inside or outside, he always knows how to keep me moving and feeling like my fun, silly self.
6. He’s the best cuddle buddy around
No human compares to the soft and warm cuddles of my puppy.
7. He follows me everywhere
My dog knows how to make me feel like I am the most important person in the world. While walking to the bathroom or quickly changing my outfit, my dog is right by my side.
8. He greets me like he never thought I’d be back
After going away to college, coming home always feels the most special when my dog greets me at the door.
9. He protects me
No matter who walks through that door, my dog is ready to stand by my side!
