With the holidays here and the family traveling starting, I've realized who my favorite family member is. This family member is always happy to see me, never asks me annoying questions about school and work, and is one of the only ones that I want to see when I'm grumpy and tired. Who is this family member? Well, it's my dog. I know what you're thinking: a dog isn't a person, they can't be there for you like family can. This is where you're wrong. A dog can do all that family can, and sometimes a bit more. Here are 25 reasons why dogs are the real MVPs when it comes to family.
1. They are literally always happy to see you.
2. Kisses are full of love, and they're given often.
3. You can vent to them without worrying about them interrupting your rant.
4. They're always there to catch your tears.
5. And to lick them away, which makes you smile.
6. You can always count on them to make you smile, no matter the day you've had.
7. They can be giant pillows if big enough.
8. And, if not, they can be personal space heaters when cuddling.
9. They let you force cuddle them, even if they absolutely hate it.
10. They don't ask annoying questions about your life.
11. And they don't judge you if you spend an entire day in bed with a container of Nutella and Netflix.
12. They don't get mad at you if you do things to purposely annoy them.
13. They never, ever yell at you. Ever.
14. And if someone does yell at you, they're the first ones to jump up and defend you.
15. They allow you to put silly sweaters and costumes on them, because they realize it makes you happy.
16. They are unquestionably loyal to you.
17. If you spill something on the floor you can always count on them to help clean it up.
18. If you hate that weird food dish your mom insists on making every year, you can feed it to them, and they will gladly take it.
19. They make everything a bit more difficult, but it always ends up being more fun when they're around.
20. They love you without question, every single day.
This holiday season, make sure you include your family dog. They'll make the holidays a bit more hectic, that's for sure, but you'll want them by your side when the rest of your family is digging into your nerves. Family may be annoying sometimes, but a dog will always be there whenever the rest get to be just a little too much. Happy holidays, and go get your dog that rawhide bone you know they'd love. They deserve it, since they take care of you every other day.
