In October of 2016, NBC premiered “Timeless,” a weekly show that features a group of people time traveling to different points in history to prevent significant changes. After its first season aired, the show was cancelled, but in May of 2017, it was renewed again for a second season.
My friend Amy recently got me into “Timeless,” and I have been hooked since episode one. Here are just six of the many reasons you will be too:
1. The Time Travel
The entire show is about time traveling into the past, meaning the effort put into the sets and the costumes are visually spectacular. And it isn’t just about time travel--the main characters are set with the task of stopping a group of people who wish to completely change history. The show has such a unique take on time travel that isn’t at all cheesy or unbelievable; it’s the perfect blend of science and fiction.
2. The Friendships
Perhaps the reason that the friendships on the show are so heartwarming is because of the real-life bond this cast has. They are constantly supporting and protecting one another, and their friendships are what make this show so instantly likable.
3. The Strong Female Lead
Lucy Preston is a force of nature. She’s ultimately chosen for this time traveling task because she teaches history, and her knowledge and philosophy guide the show in such a magnificent way.
4. The Complex Characters
Any characters that are inherently good or inherently bad are, to put it simply, inherently boring. “Timeless” features characters that are multi-dimensional, and it refuses to let any person be just “good” or just “bad”.
5. The Highlighting Of Important Narratives
“Timeless” not only talks about ignorance, but shows that it isn’t just a problem of the past. The cast itself is diverse in every way, and each episode tackles social justice with the intention of creating change. And it does.
6. The Writing
Everything about the way this show is written is completely seamless: it’s well-researched, the dialogue is always fitting, and the twists aren’t written for shock-value alone. Each episode with throw you on a rollercoaster of emotions, and you will love every second of it.
You can catch up on “Timeless” here, watch it every Sunday night at 10:00 pm (EST) on NBC, and hopefully continue to watch for many wonderful seasons to come.
